Wipers are slow...
Discussion
Hi guys...
Drove my new Chim in the rain this weekend and notice that the wipers are pretty slow compared to my other cars. I.e. i had them on 'double' speed and that was about equal to normal slow speed on other cars.
I doubt that TVR purposly chose a slow wiper motor so any thoughts on what i can grease to speed the up a bit? The screen was pretty clean but i might put some RainX on it now.
Thanks to anyone who replies

This happened eventually on my 94 Chim.... in fact its been happening for some time. Wouldnt work on slow only fast, intermittant wouldnt work and park in the middle of the screen.
I had about 3 years ago replaced the park switch and messed about with the electrics but the same. Sometimes it would work fine then stop working unless I selected fast and then switched off at the right moment so that they would park in the right spot.
4 weeks ago I decided to take off the motor which comes off quite easily and could see some corrosion..The main thing was the build up of carbon where the 3 bushes touch the armature i think? also at the back the motor floats / spins from a recess which has a ball baring in and this was cleaned up and greased.
The plates that spin inside opposite the magnets also needed a good clean up using a wire brush.
Once done and re assembled taking care to get the bushes back in (1 was partially stuck and I think not actually touching the windings at all) which was the most difficult part. I spray of WD40 got all the bushes moving freely.
All back and hey perfect wipers with loads of power!! Cant stop them even with my hand..
A job well done and couldnt understand why I hadnt done this before!!

Leave the gear housing connected to the wiper control arms etc...all you are doing is unscrewing 2 long bolts from the back plate of the electric motor. The bolts go through the motor and secure motor to the gear house. When undone carefully pull the motor and all the bits inside away from the gear box thing which actually moves the spindles and wipers etc..
Hope this helps

I think I was lucky with only 1 bush seized. They all needed some WD40 and freeing up though. The bush thing sits in a spring holder that just needs feeing up. I would have thought the bush / carbon piece would be repaceable.
The trick is getting it all back in as you have to hold back all three bushes to get the motor back in..Two pair of hands is recommended..

I might add (sorry Tim) but the WD40 will soak into the carbon bushes and make them soft, they then degrade, clogs the commutator and lead to failure.... Adrian@The trick is getting it all back in as you have to hold back all three bushes to get the motor back in..Two pair of hands is recommended..
