Cancelling xbox live subscription
Discussion
Hi,
I brought an xbox 360 gold live subscription from xbox.com roughly 3 weeks ago.
Today, I setup my network for xbox live and I tried to sign in with that account I brought online but failed.
So I setup a new account via the dashboard, which means that I redundantly paid £40. Is there any way for me to cancel the account I brought today? The money hasn't been debited from my account yet.
Once subscribing, is it possible to cancel an account and get a refund? I assume no because I could download content meaning I've used the service.
Thanks

It's notoriously hard to cancel
I have 2 XBox Live accounts that I have been fighting to cancel for ages. I'm going to have to do a chargeback on them at this rate. They refuse to acknowledge that I own the accounts as I can only tell them the bank account they are debiting and not the card number. That doesn't stop them taking the money, apparently, only from letting me have any benefit.

How is the payment processed? Card transaction or direct debit?

Their T&Cs make it fairly clear that you can cancel, so if it's DD I'd just cancel that via your bank.
If it's a card transaction and they're not playing ball, tell the bank it's a fraudulent transaction and see if the bank's fraud dept gets them to hustle things along a bit.

In my case, it was them trying to make a Debit Card transaction on a card that had expired, emailing me to say "we can't process it" (to which I thought "good!") and then emailing it say "oh, it's ok, we've managed anyway".
I am ashamed to admit that this is the 2nd year this has happened. I tried to sort it out last year, failed, and then kind forgot about it until it reared its ugly head again this year.
I know. I know.
I'm going to phone the bank and do a chargeback. Honest.

I had some problems with my account over the weekend as my credit card had expired. I got a message on the 360 saying my account was suspended, but when I tried to access my account options to update the card it wouldn't let me
After a quick search I found a link:
http://billing.microsoft.com
Which allows you to view payment options for your accounts. Try there, it might allow you to remove your details.

Thanks. Trouble is I have lost control of both accounts as I don't know the password and don't know the credit card details used to register either (because in order to get a password reminder you have to supply the number of the credit card you originally used when you set the account up, not the one that was used most recently to renew).

I would probably say no as you've already activated it, give MS a ring and see what they say
