opened the boot lid to be greeted by a small pond this morning, the car was parked on a sloped drive aand it appears the puddle created by the spoiler drained into the boot... my carpet is sodden and there appears to be a LOT of water in there....

help

how the hell do i get it out?

will it cause me trouble with the lectrics? the car is an early S2 and the battery sitting in the back doesn't fill me with joy.

my best suggestion so far is 'accessorise with a rubber duck and some gold fish' ....

Or maybe drill a small hole - get the carpet out though or it'll stink........

As you mentioned a spoiler,is it an Elise or Exige?

My Exige boot used to get water in every time it rained or I washed it.

You need to remove the carpets and leave it garaged for at least a day to dry it out properly? If not, the water keeps evaporating and condensing on the underneath of the boot lip and drips all over the battery!

Mine use to leak through the spoiler bolt holes, the rear lights and the join between the boot tub and the rear clam (just under the lip next to the engine bay).

I solved the problems on mine by using bathroom silicone sealant!

Took the spoiler off, cleaned out the holes, filled with sealant and re-fitted.

The lights just needed refiiting against the foam ring, someone hadn't tightened them up I think?

The joint I just larruped loads of sealant into it and touchwood, I can now hose the rear of the car without a drop getting in.

You may want to check that the boot lid seats against the rubber seal properly - you can do this with chalk or talc and see if it leaves a full impression on the boot lid?

PITA but all solvable with patience - good luck!

thanks ... i may get the black and decker out tonight... the carpet will have to live on a radiator in the house for a day or two.

sigh... i really miss summer.. it was short this year.

Would get my vote - I did that in my Alfa and then just some sealant to fill the hole after. Just make sure it'll run off ok and not onto anything else important. I would avoid using it until all dried out - the lights wiring is all a bit exposed in the rear and you don't want to start shorting things out......

My Elise does this during heavy downpours (posted about it ages ago).

Hint - give the inside of the boot a good wash and dry out every now and again, I found the beginnings of furry mould on the inside roof of the boot (fibreglass above the wiring and bulbs etc), given time I'm sure would have been on the stinky side.

Washed off easily though, once I know its there.

Was the car parked facing uphill or downhill?

up hill.. but just at the right angle to make a puddle which when i saw i thought how funny..opened the boot (to check oil/coolant as you ) and the 'laughter' stopped.

maybe it wasnt the 'puddle' maybe it just leaked..however the little trough that the boot 'sits' in was full of water..maybe it just kept filling till it flowed into the boot.

my S1 used to park in the same spot but that never did this...
