Subaru Vs Evo

At the min im the owner of an 05 impreza 4x4......sadly its a 1600...... which is a bit crap. the car looks great but just dosent have the performance to match. i have thought about putting the turbo engine in but will the drive train take the power or, is the full STI set up needed. If this idea fails/is to expensive, i have looked at an EVO VII FQ300, but i dont really know how economical or driveable the car is, would i just be better to go and buy an sti.

just buy a faster car...I mean you can get a perfectly good classic scoob or Evo V for about six grand?

Agreed - the cost of upgrading everything in a standard scoob will be extraordinary. Save up and make the right decision when you can afford it. There are lots of scoobies around so take your time - it'll be worth it.

To much hassle in transplanting the engine gearbox looms etc into a non-turbo car..

If you want the discrete looks of a non-turbo get a WRX stick a front mount intercooler on and replace the bonnet for a non-turbobonnet without the scoop.

You could do the same as i have done though if you had a WRX in the first place and dump an STi lump into it, change the wiring loom and bingo....one very quick WRX wagon

And mine still looks like a WRX Wagon...

my main reason for considering the transplant is that the car is a full STI/WRC replica. i would like to buy an EVO VII but am not sure how easy they are to drive on a daily basis.ie. fuel.

The scooby is easier to drive/live with on a day to day basis. Expect horrendous mpg either way. The most I have got out a tank is 250 miles pottering about. Service intervals twice that of an evo. I looked into this long and hard as I have alwys preferred the evo but the scooby is better value for money.

yea ive alway luved both cars but my 1600 is only doing 220 miles to a tank.....its awful...i really wouldent mind if it had power to back it up. wats the reliability like with the subaru.....ive heard some scary stories about the engines.

If its maintained correctly and warmed up and warmed down sympathetically you shouldn't have any issues. Its a reliable enough engine: people tend to run into problems when they can't afford to keep up with the maintenance schedule

Whats more, you will put all that money into the car and never get it back. Go and buy the one you want where someone else has spent all the money on it and just enjoy it. At the sort of money you are talking about if you look after it you wont lose much on it!

also have you considered the insurance cost, a touch more than a 1600!!
