Thanks for the kind comments - much appreciated.
If you'd like a second installment I'd be happy to oblige.
Furyous - checked all my other blown Pro Mod shots and the butterflies always appear closed or cracked open only a smidgin on all the burnout shots (e.g. the Danny Cockrill shot above.) Same as the Methanol funny cars - the butterflies are only wide open on the run.
Guess you only need a bit of throttle to light the tires, or they are throttle stopped that way for the burnout. Be interested to know which.

yes, and yes.

The cars burnout in high gear, and a pro mod will burn out across the start line with a wheel speed around 200mph, fuel cars higher. The engine is effectively running with no load on it at all, and without a physical throttle stop, revs would climb and pistons would start getting scared of the dark.

The physical throttle stop is removed by a crew member after the car has reversed after the burnout (unless you are Tommy Moeller :-)).

Thanks Jon.
At the risk of taking this thread further out of the groove, what does Tommy Moeller do that's different?

Haha, I am referring to a well documented incident when Tommy was driving the Top Fuel car, and his crewman neglected to remove the throttle stop before the run. This resulted in a somewhat below par performance, which the crewman in question has been trying to live down since.

Having just read that back, it was, in hindsight, probably one of those 'you had to be there' moments.

Great pics, by the way. Love the first pic of Krister.

That is a great turn of phrase :-)
