Adverts slowing down the scrolling of threads

No big deal you might think, but when I'm trying to scroll down a thread, I roll the mouse wheel or navigate downwards, expecting a smooth scroll, but no.... nothign happens for a second or so, then suddenly it jumps.... repeat for the whole thread.

Only common link seems to be the animated HSBC advert sitting there, I'm assuming it's using so much energy to keep it's animations going that it's effecting the underlying functionality of the page it's attached to.

Might not sound a big deal, but it is really starting to get on my tits that every thread has to be read with a series of jerky 'jumps' down the page!

Looks like you're allowing advertisers to effect the functionality of the system and piss your users off.... it's your call who you think is more important!!!

I have temporarily disabled flash in IE and it's cured the probs. I have no problem with advertising per se (and am now seeing animated gifs on PH) but I often use a low powered device to browse the web and with two or more flash adverts on the same page it brings things to a crawl.

It does it on my PC too - IE sucks nearly 100% of a CPU when that HSBC ad is on the page!

Noticed it last night on my home PC and upon restarting IE it appeared to be cured. I suspect what actually happened was that I got a different ad after the restart.

But today I noticed it on my work PC so figured it must be the site. Really irritating!

Copied from a similar topic in the P&P, for Firefox and Adblock users:

For adblock try the following:

Left click on the down arrow next to the adblock icon top right of Firefox.

Select Preferences.

Select "Add Filter" button at the bottom left of popup window.

In the little window that appears add the following:

http://*.atdmt.com/*

Click the "Apply" button, then the "Ok" button.


Hopefully that should take care of it.

This has been driving me POTTY on my machine at home...I thought it was IE and I was going to have to re-install it...

Doesn't happen on my work Vista machine (monumentally grunty).

Edited to say...is happening now on my Vista box too. Bummer.

Come on, how long can it take to get this viral advert removed?

It's alright for those with Firefox or IE7 etc... but when you're sat at work and stuck with IE6 it ain't so easy!

Please....I'm having to click the advert and remove the play option everytime I go into a new thread page!

And to HSBC, you can knob off if your think I'm ever using any of your services in the near future... you can't even write a bit of advert code right!
