Just wanted to know what anyone else thinks about this road, I think its great especially a nice evening when it’s quite! You can see exactly what’s coming around most of the corners making use of all of the road! I prefer getting to it the Buxton side going via Long Hill first.

I agree, great in the morning or evening, when no one's about. Just watch out for that corner on the way down near rainow (toward Macc) that tightens up on you, caught me out in the exige...

I had a bit of a oversteer incident myself on one of the tight left-handers about half way down from the pub, it was cured with a dab of opposite lock : )

great road, one of my favourites and like you say you can see all the road so getting past slower traffic isnt a problem.

me and my mate used to go up there all the time late on at night and made a few vids but i wont link to them as im sure someone will nag for silly driving or something.

also try the a54 off of the cat and fiddle towards congelton, not as smooth but a really technical bit of road and much more of a challenge to drive quickly compared to the cat.

Cat & Fiddle is a great road, spoilt now by the blanket 50 limit frown However, it's still a challenge to do 50 ALL the way up smile Watch out in the wet though, as a major lorry shortcut, it's gets very slippery!

Now the a54 is still a great road, also now a blanket 50 limit.

i tend to find it better doing it the other way so start from the top and work your way down. not as many blind crests.

Another A54 fan here, its far more challenging than the Cat imo, and nowhere near as busy. Its a nice little triangle route to do both roads though if you look at the map smile

I did the A54 a couple of weeks back when it was drizzling and generally a bit slippy. I was taking my new Clio 197 out to see how she goes!

I absolutely loved it; one of the best roads I've driven in the UK. It is a shame about the 50 limit, but you don't even need to go thaaat fast as some of the twisty sections lower down are more than challenging, especially when it's slippy.

Would recommend!

Cough Cough, you do more than 50 all the way up Mr CW!!!

It is a great road if you know it, the problem is it has a reputation so people who don't know it try to blast along it and come a cropper usuallu meeting a motorbike or car coming down. Also heavily policed in the summer.

A54 is also great, you can get airbourne o a couple of sections.

Tip – watch out for sheep in the middle of the road, particularly the tight “blind” bends near the top. They will just stand there on the spot as you hit the brakes as hard as you can, then just wander onto the verge like nothing happened.

Are any of Derbyshire's A-roads NSL any more?

The vast majority of their 50 limits are, IMO, utterly stupid and actually make the A-roads more dangerous because they bunch the traffic up. The A6, A515 and A52 are particularly unpleasant.

At least (for the time being) the county redeems itself with its great collection of B-roads which are largely deserted and unsullied by enforcement.
