This letter is in the current (but not current for long) issue of Classic & Sportscar Magazine and I found it quite interesting.

I would like to know more about this crazy car. I used to live near Bromley (Kent) and I have very faint memories of seeing the ‘Fibreglass Repairs’ set up that was nearby in a place called Shortlands. I can almost picture the odd Funny cat body laying around, maybe one on the roof of the shop?

I don’t know if I’m right, but as soon as I saw the crazy DLT UFO car it reminded me of Fibreglass repairs and I figured that the car just had to have been built there, anyone know any more about it?

I can also remember somebody telling me that there was a Jet car in a front garden somewhere in the Bromley area but I never found it... which jet car would that have been, was it the Scorpion perhaps?

When I saw this car with Ed Bishop on Sarfend pier in 1971, I was told that originally it was a Ford Cortina.

Whether that is true or not I don't really know, but I do that DLT is wearing an Midland Drag Racing Association tee shirt in the photo. That probably dates the photo to 1974 when DLT was our Honorary President. The car on that shirt was Raymond Beadle's Mustang FC.

The artical says he bought the car in 1975 so does that not mean that the photo could not be 1974 it would have to be at least 1975? scratchchin

Kestral - The t shirts arrived by Red Star on Friday evening June 14 1974 just in time for the Silverstone meeting that weekend where DLT was given his. The one in the photo looks pretty new to me and DLT was keen to support the club in our first year of 1974.

So the original Straker car has been rotting in a garden for several decades in someone's garden, and they refuse to sell it.

However, a re-creation is being made to the original UFO "fictional" spec, complete with gas turbine engine and doors that don't only open with the help of a stage hand!

Cool.
