drain fuel tank ? to fit a fuel filter S4

This is my first posting to the forum. So here goes. I have found the forum brilliant

Do you need to drain the fuel tank before fitting a new fuel filter on an S4, same as S3 fuel system I think. Steve Heath appears to suggest you should drain first. However i have been thinking (always dangerous!) If fuel has to go through the petrol pump prior to to the filter i could remove filter with out too much loss of fuel or turning my self into toast ( would that be a good excuse to miss S club).

To replace the external filter you just need to clamp the hose either side. To replace/clean the pre-filter (strainer) inside the tank you need to drain the tank.

A pair of mole grips makes a great clamp!

You dont even need to clamp teh hose (as it's a V6 it's a plastic pipe that you don't really want to damage, they're a bugger if they start to leak ..) just undo the unions carefully, the fuel you lose will just be what's in the filter .. it'll seem like a lot as it's leaking out initially but the flow will stop soon, just have a bucket underneath to catch what spills out. Good idea to disconnect the battery if you're safety conscious too

Sorry for late reply day job gets in the way of TVR time.
