Third Party Warranties and SP6 Engine
Discussion
Does anyone know of any warranty companies that will cover a SP6 rebuild? I have just come off the phone with Warranty Works, who tell me for a 03 plate car with 20k miles they wouldn't class any engine components that break as being due to wear and tear... I'm a little cynical !
Heard about one called Motorplan Platinum that suposedly does, but can't find this anywhere on the web

I first I didn't believe that statement, but I would say it's probably true. I reckon any engine components that break on a speed 6 engine will be classified by Warranty Works as an inherent design fault, so not covered either!i took one out on mine and im a mechanic by trade. If anything did go on the engine and it wasnt covered i could do it myself anyway. However i did a lot of research into the warranty i have and checked the in's and out's. Obvious things arent covered such as brakes, shock absorbers and exhaust but they are wear and tear items so thats fair enough. as for the warranty of the engine it covers any failure of oil seal, machine work such as valve stems, failed oil pumps. It doesnt cover warped, pourous heads/blocks and wiring looms but we dont suffer from that on sp6 anyway, except looms.
So had the car a month and tested the warranty out. My findings? well my speedo flickered on and off around 80 plus. speed sensor on the rear diff. warranty has paid in full. I serviced the car and have heard that main coils are prone to going down so though i would change that too. warranty contribution.... 100% bill came to around £360 which has been paid by warranty company.
The only thing i will say is be careful of labour rates they will pay. Mine pays up to £35 per hour only, which is good for a warranty company and the customer has topay the rest. luckily i work at a main dealer so i managed to sort this with a friendly chat with my manager
so, to summerise ive had nearly £400 out of the warranty company in 1 month, and they didnt bat an eye lid. the warranty cost £540 for one year so im nearly quits.
Go for a warranty wherever you can, i have known them pay out for gearboxs, engines etc and that's on a even more unreliable car - renaults.

Yes I had that warranty on my old Tuscan the warranty is available through TVR dealers and independents such as Track V Road and yes a rebuild up to 4K will be covered (less consumables oils etc).
By the way are you Marcus ? (looking for a Tuscan)

I just put a deposit on one yesterday - came down to a straight choice between your old one and this one - they were the same price but the one I went for is 2 years newer and 12k miles. Will post a pic when I pick it up. Its got an autoprotect warranty but not sure it will cover a rebuild so looking for alternatives.
