Tiff Needell in Can-Am Shocker!!!!

Wierd day at work.

Firstly Jarno and Timo are in signing autographs for Toyota HO, and then I stumble accross Mr Needell in reception.

I recall that he did a piece on a GTR some time ago, so I ask him how it was. He says it was a great bit of kit, neutral handling, a bit pricey and very hot in the cab. And then this:::

Tiff:

'I expect the roofless version would be quite good'

LuckyP:

'You're not a hairdresser are you??'

Tiff:

'Hairdressers wouldn't drive that would they?'

Luckyp:

'I dunno????'

That's odd, because in the piece he says it understeered like a b***ard. Well he probably didn't use that exact language.

According to the factory they asked for a "200mph car", and insisted it be set up for 200mph. So the factory tinkered with suspension settings hoping to make it more stable at very high speed. They then tested in a damp low speed airfield circuit, might even have been Dunsfold.

Yeah I recall that, but he defo said it was neutral, and I did ask if he got understeer.

Perhaps again they fell foul of the big boys, where to say a low cost supercar was better than a big cat would not have been a smart career move???

If it is the piece I have here then it was a very long time ago, as it was for Top Gear. His words exactly were "It has a little too much understeer for my liking". It certainly looks like Dunsfold.

Not wishing to drag you boys away from your banter but seems like a good opportunity to ask you about understeer. I've noted the previous comments about the car set-up Tiffany was given and I watched his video - I was surprised he complained about understeer.

Can you confirm that native understeer is not a significant issue with the Ultima?

Jim, it all depends on how 'under-steer sensitive' an individual is. I, for one, can not stand it but as anyone will tell you, a certain amount of it nearing the cars limit is not a bad thing. The good thing about these cars is that it can be dialled out more or less completely by the sheer amount of adjustment available to you.
