Hope many find the info below useful on your trip there and back. Last year it cost me 135 Euros and a 2-week ban for 199kph on the A28!

They definately flash. I can tell you that for sure. Whether they can prosecute from them is a different matter.
There are 2 that I know locations for. There are definately a couple near the channel ports then there's another at entrance to the Rouen tunnel and another on the first of the two viaducts on the A28 going south where the road narrows to one lane to cross the bridge.

Solution: anonymise your rear plate.There are 2 that I know locations for. dont't speed with any GB badges at the rear, what are the chances they can trace a plate with just numbers and letters to the correct country, let alone put a letter on your doorstep? Car could originate from any country that uses a yellow rear plate and our font.
Even more chance of working with a 'cherished' type plate.
In my case, I unknowingly was minding my own business at 199kph when a proper Gendarme car (not local police) were waiting for me on a slip road. They tailed me a short while (I had slowed down at this point) then gesticulated to follow them to a lay-by where they had told me a radar trap many miles back clocked me at 199kph.
It seems an alert goes out to the closest Gendarme car to the radar trap and then wait for you at the next junction. I had no wedge and suitably had to follow them to Gace and the village ATM for a bail-out fine and plenty of boring paperwork.
Lesson: There is no flashing (it must be speed/time taken between two radar points), and make sure you have your V05 with you (as well as EU insurance, driving license docs etc).
Oh, and also on the way down on the A28 after Rouen, closer to LeMans, the blue-uniformed cheese-eating surrender monkeys do hide on the blind side of bridges and tunnels where they are hidden! Be warned!

The fixed radars still can't do you, though wonderful Europe is working on that. In any case, there are big signs warning you that one is ahead, and they are marked on internet map services like Mappy.
The mobile traps can be in lots of different places, sometimes using radars, sometimes using laser "binoculars". They radio on ahead and you are stopped either by a car at a laybay or when slowing down for the toll gates. Do be careful in the last few kms before a toll gate - these are favourite locations.
Plenty of unmarked cars now too, and they can "radarise" you even when they are driving along and you overtake them. w
rs - one anonymous looking estate car got me like that.
Basically it has got alot nastier now. My advice would be to go to an AA shop and get an (or a couple of) international driving licence(s) so they don't take your UK one away. Also, carry cash as on the spot fines are around 700€ for unreasonable speeding, up to 3000€ for wildly excessive, and they will impound your vehicle until you pay.
Good idea to have a licence carrying passenger insured on the car who can take over the wheel if you get your licence taken away from you - otherwise the car stays where it is.
And be careful if caught in a racey convoy - in theory they can do you for the equivalent of dangerous driving and take the vehicle and sell it at government auction. A couple of gumballers caught last year near Calais left their Fezza and Porker behind and had to buy them back - fancy an $X0,000 fine for speeding? That's basically what it amounts to.
Licence suspension territory is over about 170 kph - I have now been reduced to cruising at around 155 and keeping my eyes thoroughly peeled!
Take it easy and have fun, but be aware that they are now equipped and seriously screwing the froggy population and you Le Mansing ros-bifs will be seen as cash cows.

Might aswell mark of all the Gendarme offices along your route as a lot especially on Autoroutes have the radars set up a few K's before as s they can pull you into the Station just of the Autoroute( also some exits have Gendarme stations sign posted erm erm in case you need them 
....same for N roads just be careful coming up to towns etc...
Personally I think your pretty mad if you do absolutely Crazy speeds down to Le mans nowadays.

They will be everywhere on the A28 for sure. I believe France has some agreement with Germany for the fixed radar installations (you get a fine sent to you very quick, all totally automatic), but otherwise Brit drivers should be safe. The red tape will get done eventually one day though (not long)
The laser type obviously you can't escape from. For sure the good old days are well and truely over. In town due to the new tram-way there are 30kph zones. Almost feels you can get out and push. So easy to go through these at 60kph or more, and if you do, it's serious. Watch-out !!
I use this site. It lists the radars and shows an image of their location. Just click on the map, and move to follow your route. Or key in for each region. It's french, but helpful enough. Just look at all the little sods, and there locations. I thought Bournemouth was bad enough !!!

PS. Trackers are totally illegal over here. And the fine is like a mortgage !!
