Laser Blocker... I mean Garage Door Opener
Discussion
Anyone fitted and used the LT400 Garage door opening laser setup thats also suppose to block lasers from the boys in blue... PM me if you dont want to be named. My mate has them fitted all round on an RS6 but he abuses the car so much they are all broken and he drives so bloody fast they dont bother with him normally!
Contemplated one as they plugged straight into the Origin B2 I was using in my old Beemer.
Didn't seem worth it though. They have dubious reliability so wouldn't trust it anyway so seemed pointless.
Would be interested to know if anyone has had any positive experiences though....(in opening garage doors of course

yep an old boy in wales did it, kept blocking out a speed trap on the way home until one day police stopped him then checked if he had an electric garage door = no = perverting course of justice = bubba
Not an old boy a younger guy. He was stupid enough to claim in the pub that he could jam the signals of an LT2020. Rising to the gauntlet, said idiot then took some passengers past a known police trap at warp speed, end result no ticket. He apparently did the same thing the next day and the police removed his vehicle to a police workshop for closer inspection. Once found they charged him with the above offence. This was told to me first-hand by another motorist who I knew when we both had Ultima GTR's. I saw this device and fitted one thinking it was a good idea, it may or may not have saved my bacon on more than one occasion I can't remember..Anyway I got a phonecall from the other Ultima chap at 5am to tell me that the police had just dawn-raided his house and removed his vehicle to their compound for further inspection (see where this is going?). They found the units, and duly charged him with perverting the cause of justice. He claimed it was on the car when he bought it (which it was) and that the previous owner gave him the solenoid which automates the opening of the garage door. He had the receiver fitted by a specialist automated garage door company and denied all knowledge of what the 'ulteria motive' of the device was. He won his case only on the grounds that he could prove that:
- He only bought the car very recently and that he had no concept of the product capability.
- Their expert witness from the garage door company said the receiving device was no different from any other garage door opener, only the automated transmitter was seem to be different and he only found out about that beacuse the prosecution had 'put it to him' that he had seem them before... which fortunately in this case he had not.
- The police removed the pair of front mounted devices and refused to give them back.
- The reason they knew where to come is because the hand-held and veicle mounted speed test devices record 'no-reads'. As there is also a CCTV camera which captures the license plate (some are also read by ANPR) they download the 'no-read' data into a countrywide database each day. If a vehicle gets seen twice in the database, they presume that it has jamming capabilities, and you get the dawn raid next morning.
Have to say anyone wishing to purposefully jam a signal, then does so, deserves what they get. I can understand the temptation but then these are public roads. I know it sounds boring but if you (people in general) speed so often you need one of these devices then perhaps the owners driving habbits need to change.
I'll get called boring, asked if I ever speed etc (which by the definition of even 80 leptons is speeding) and I am no agel but I do generally stick to the limit. Get my thrills at or below the legal limit by avoiding motorways and enjoying the country roads but in a safe manner and as said at or below the limit. Once you've redlined your bike there's no further thrill.
I used to have a snooper, a waste of money considering my drivig habbits but I was once pulled over on an M40 slip road during a census. The officer took a long hard look at the snooper and after that i never used it. I figured that if I were to ever be done for speeding the fact I had a speed trap detector would really weigh heavily against me.
Each to their own but jamming a signal is going too far, as in my book is ensuring a plate is too dirty to be read. The plate issue for me is not about people cheekily getting away with speeding but in the event of an accident I'd like to think that a plate could be easily read. I was outside Brands a few years back where a fatal accident had occured, the biker that caused said accident sped off and due to the size of the plate no one could remember the reg.
If I had my way it would be an instant 3 points if seen with a dirty or undersized plate. Unfortunately we no longer have traffic police so people will get away with it

Valid points but Im affraid "yr boring"
. Why have a bloody great V8 and stick to the side roads... buy something that is renowned for handling rather then make something big and heavy sort of handle...? I would not think fitting one of these devices is a total safety net as the police are not stupid but if you were speeding at 3am in the morning with little around and some bored officer tries to fry you with a gun shorely it would be a good idea to save the ban...? agree with another person that they should be able to switch them off as well as on.

if its boring to go and enjoy a big car like this in areas you want to use a go cart then I'd ask why go get your kicks on dual carriage ways/motorways needing speed to get the thrill? Its each to their own my point is simply if you are wanting one of these devices to avoid capture that you might want to reconsider the style in which you get your thrills on the roads. I genuinely have more fun at the legal end of the spectrum by chosing the right roads. Why have a big v8? Because I always promised myself I'd have one. The ro really comes into its own if taken off the motorways. I guess part of the fun of not having a highly tuned ro means I can enjoy it more at a more sedate pace?

+1
I've seen other enthusiasts driving at mind-warping speeds at times, but I really try not to take the piss on public roads. Going fast in a straight line isn't difficult and very nearly any car is capable of hitting significant triple figure speeds these days.
What I love are NSL roads with good sighting through the corners that allow you to get into a smooth rhythm of correctly blipping, swapping cogs, positioning the car and making smooth progress.
I'm not a perfect driver and we've all done stupid things at times, but I know when I've done it and the sick feeling I get afterwards tends to reform me.
It’s best not to go there!
A couple of years ago on my birthday to be precise which turned out to be a lovely warm and sunny January day I thought that I would take one of my special sports cars out for a run. The car was fitted with a Laser detector that was affixed to the center of the windscreen. The unit would be alive as soon as the ignition was activated (keyless) when stating the engine the power drain would make the detector go through it's start up sequence (pain in the arse) so I pulled it's plug and thought as soon as I get out onto the open road I would plug it in again.
I live in a village that had 30 and 40 limits, well even though I was told at some point that the 40 was now 30 nothing registered when I was driving through the village, as what they had done was to cut down the old 40 marker, but never replaced it with a 30! Mmmmmmmmmmmmmm
Ok so I got nicked with laser gun and camera less than 1/2 a mile from my house. I was so upset that I wrote a letter to the "Safety Camera" people saying that as I was unaware that the sign had been removed bla bla bla and would they think twice.
Well my letter was forwarded to the chief of police for my area, and he duly wrote back with a very threatening letter, saying that I was being let off very lightly, and said I should take the 3 points and £60, other wise he would go for 6 points and a £2,000 fine, and that they were very happy to defend their actions in a court of law .and upon losing the case I would get to pick up their substantial costs.
So I took legal advice as I did not like the way he wrote to me, on being debriefed by my solicitor it came clear why the police were so bullish. They had a perfect photograph of me, my number plate, and the laser detector. The solicitor told me to roll over and take the points, and just walk away.
Well I was livid but had to roll over and take it, but there is a moral there! Switch it on next time!!! no, no it sits in it's box now and never goes out.

Nothing wrong with a laser detector. Unless by 'laser detector' you mean 'laser detector'?A couple of years ago on my birthday to be precise which turned out to be a lovely warm and sunny January day I thought that I would take one of my special sports cars out for a run. Having received a NIP from the BiB last week (my first-ever NIP, and a blot now on a license which has been clean for 16+ years), I did briefly contemplate bolting the stable door over the weekend with one of these devices. However, the location in which they "got me" (A322 near Bagshot, they recorded me at 66 in a 50, where that 50mph is on a dual-lane dual carriageway, but that's another story), the scamera van was over the crest of a hill, and by the time I saw it, it was only a very short distance away (perhaps 200m from memory but I was busy trying to lose speed with Monaro brakes rather than counting the distance); my point therefore being that unless you're on a very long stretch of road and they're using their 1km range to get you, I rather doubt that you're ever going to be able to react quickly enough once they've pinged you anyway, whatever warning you get? The flipside of that with a laser "detector" where you need to stop it "detecting" as soon as it alerts you is that they can probably ping you 2 or 3 times before you switch it off, in which case they'll know what's up and nick you anyway?
I also used to have a Snooper with laser detection, and I reckon the only thing that was good for (laser-wise) was advising you to watch your letter box after it went off.

The Road Angel comes with 'known trapping zones' as well - useful for knowing where the BiB hang out with regularity. Useful if you don't know the area you're driving through and could be caught out.
Also just to clarify, there's a significant difference between a laser detector and a laser jammer - there seems to be some confusion on the thread as the legality of them...?

No confusion at all, a jammer is highly illeagal and everyone knows that, so to put ones head in a noose on a forum is not a good idea.Edited by Funk on Monday 2nd June 16:17
However a dectector is legal, and can prove usefull as it is able to pick up "laser scatter" from another car being targeted, therefore giving plenty of time to "be aware".
Even though legal in this country be carefull if you have to go to court, and the bib tell the judge that you had one opperating in the car, it won't help your defence.
It is not illeagal to buy jammers, but it is to switch them on!!!!!
