London Brighton Mini Run 2008
Discussion
A bit late maybe but finally got round to looking at my pic's from this yeats L2B. Don't know how many PHer's went but we loved it and so did our littlun
Here's a few to look at:

Just as a footnote and slightly off topic - how many if any object to newshiete Mini's being included in the run? My wife has always objected to it, and this year I can see her point when we had to park on the slope down to Madeira drive rather than on it as there were too many Mini's? (more new Mini's = less space for everyone due to size)

I was there with one of my clubs
what's wrong with the 'new' MINI? they certainly aren't 'shiete' as you put it - my very first car was a classic Mini, I still love them now and I am looking to buy a classic as a 2nd car..... HOWEVER I also love the MINI. I'm on my second one now and as a community, the MINI clubs get fed up of hearing these nasty comments and jibes from the classic owners every time we go to an event. at the L2B last year, some of the names that we were called as we entered Crystal Palace were appauling and one of my friends had to try and explain to her 9 & 13 year old children, some of the words were un-repeatable and certainly shouldn't have been aimed towards children. at the end of the day, we are there to have just as much fun as everybody else, just because we may own a MINI instead of a Mini doesn't mean we should be treated any differently - you will find that many new owners once owned a classic, but with the amount of traffic that is on todays roads, the newer option is much safer for families and more practical. why should we be bullied just because of what car we choose to drive

It's nothing personal - We just don't like them.
I drove a cooper auto a few months back and have never been so disappointed - auto box aside, I felt the engine sounded annoyingly wizzey and the seats seemed to be made for 30 stone Americans (I'm quite portley but still slopped about in it). The boot is no bigger than the old Mini and the styling is all a bit numb and fuzzy.
It's also very disappoining to hear that actual abuse has occurred - whilst I don't agree with new Minis as they a just another eurobox cash in on an old brand, just like beetles and fiat 500 etc etc - that kind of behaviour is totally unacceptable and can't be tolerated.

yeah I do understand your point, and I don't think the Cooper auto is probably the best example - I don't have a problem with people not liking the MINI, it's a bit like Marmite I guess, but I just don't understand why people have to be so rude and arrogant about it.... however when I get called a w
r just because I drive a MINI, I am bound to take it personally! one of my friends also came back to a deep key scratch on her car at the L2B the other weekend, whilst it was parked on Madeira Drive
one thing that I have noticed at various shows and events, is that the classic owners that supposedly don't 'like' the new MINI, do seem to pay them a fair bit of attention when they think we aren't looking! maybe their curiosity just gets the better of them, I don't know, but I'm always happy to have a chat and for anyone to have a look at my car if they want to.... whether it's their cup of tea or not, I won't be offended as long as they are polite and don't call us names! at the end of the day, the MINI is here to stay and we would all like to get along, even if you do prefer the classic - we don't have a problem with that!

i'm sorry i hate all this MINI hating. you do know that rover (the very same that made the classic) designed the first generation MINI it was only BMW that put an engine in it and a good job they did or the K series would have gone in it and that would have been rubbish!!
anyway back to L2B i was there parked up next to the silver roof chop. as ever a great show.
