Good morning all,
Here is the plan:
I am entrusted with taking ten cars (in two weeks time !)for a two week jolly around europe.
I have the routes planned in my head.
Most of us have tom tom sat nav systems.
I have "Microsoft Autoroute 2007", "ITNconv", and the obvious free stuff ie google earth and via michelin (which, by the way, now has the "export to email/GPS", facility).

What i now need is a very simple and straightforward (remember, i told you i was thick) tutorial which will explain each step, including:
i) creating a route in ms a/route (i think i can manage that bit ???)
ii) converting i) above, into a ITNconv file.
iii) sending ii) above to both my own tom tom unit and my pal's (i use that term "loosely") via either a CD or another SD card, and of course, Postman Pat.

Grateful thanks to Tony H for his help to date with lots of the above.

Many thanks in anticipation, and thanks for your time & consideration.

kind regards,
desperate dave

1. Create route in Autoroute. For ease of managing the routes, it's probably best to plan each day individually, and save them as individual files, labelled accordingly. This will give you your standard Autoroute .axe files

2. Start ITNConv, click the Open button, browse to the file you want to convert, and click Open. At the bottom, scroll throught the options for 'Export File Format' and select the relevant Tom Tom itn option. Hit the Export button and save the converted file to a directory/location of your choice. I usually save mine in the same folder as the source files.

3. I use Garmin myself, so am not too hot on Tom Toms, but I believe you need to copy the resulting .itn files in to the itn folder on your Tom Tom, and then do something in the Tom Tom to create an itinerary from the imported .itn files.

Sorry to be a bit vague on that last point, but I am sure if you have problems with that part, someone will be able to give a more helpful set of instructions on that part.

As for getting the routes on to your friends units, I imagine you should be able to do that by copying them on to SD cards or even put them on a CD so that they can be copieed across from their own PCs.

For the TomTom side, follow the instructions I posted on another thread a couple of days ago:

"Connect TomTom to a computer. You should be able to access it from the computer just like an external disk drive or memory key. You should find a folder called itn, and copy the itn file to that folder. Then using the TomTom, from the menu select Itinerary Planning, then Options, then Load Itinerary, and choose the itinerary with the name of the file you saved.

If you need more detailed instructions ask again.

Then I suggest you read the tips I gave in the second half of my post on the thread called: Best system for Euro trip planning."

To provide the routes to the other drivers, the easiest way may be to email them. Be aware that if any of them have TomTom One v 3, someone else has recently posted that this recent model does not have the itinerary feature.

A couple of things to watch for.

1. When you've loaded the .itn to your TomTom check the route it works out for you. It may not be the same as the Autoroute one. The way round it is to plot more points in Autoroute. Keep checking until TomTom is the same as Autoroute.

2. Autoroute maps (in my experience) are not necessarily up to date. It can lead to TomTom plotting some seemingly odd routes. I resorted to checking using Viamichelin.

Hope this helps and have a good trip

Any good Dave ? I think you'll have to e-mail them to me, my Tom Tom doesn't have a memory car.
