Guys, I couldn't find a Skoda forum but I decided to post here considering its part of the VAG group.

I'm thinking of getting a 2005 Skoda Octavia VRS, like the one in this link, preferrably in silver as I don't think red does anything for the car.

Anyway, what do you guys think of the the Octavia Vrs. Is it worth the money?

Unfortunately, they are like hens teeth in Ireland so I haven't been able to test drive one to get a feel for the car.
Thanks

More than happy with mine.Bought new in 2003, re-mapped to 225Bhp 6 months later (who cares about warranties?wink )

It's now got just over 60K on the clock and other than tyres & servicing it's cost me the grand total of £170 for a new front ARB. I can see me keeping it another couple of years too.

Driven a couple of unmarked plod ones. Seemed very good. Build and interior quality good but not as good as e.g. Audi or even VW, despite what people claim.

RichB86, and another friend og mine have them, theyre a great Q car especially when remapped. Resonable fuel econnomy as well. Good hadling for the car

Check the seats, easilly marked and fray, check the remote central locking prone to failiure, also go over the whole rear wiper assembly, its the leak from this that kills the central locking.

Go for silver or black and everyone in Hampshire will think your the plod!

Rich has put 15000 on his this year, including a trip to oban very good all rounder was his comment

Hi,

I have been running a Mk1 vRS for nearly 2 years now - bought from a Skoda Dealer second hand.

It is a Sep 2003 model in yellow and I love it!

If buying one, you need to chack that the water pump and cambelt have been changed if over 60k miles or 4 years old - this has changed since the cars were launched due to premature failure of water pump impellors (they are plastic and break up) - you can get a metal impellor pump fitted to rectify this but I just went for a new plastic one.

Other than ARB bushes and a brake switch I have not had any running issues with mine (relatively low mileage - car in on 44K).

I am looking at getting mine remapped soon, and have fitted Audi S3 rims in anthracite which I think compliment the yellow nicely.

Where did you get it mapped out of interest?

Options for remap are always a good point of discussion smile

Favourites tend to be Jabba, Star Performance (up in Scotland), Revo, some folk love Angel tuning others don't, there are others too.

I am thinking either Jabba (done by Bedrock Veedubs in Scotland) or Star for mine when I get it done - others may offer good peak bhp gains but at what cost? (drivability, etc).

I am going to stay with a time proven one, probably pay a bit more for peace of mind.

Jabbasport...twice in fact.

First time was a straight re-map and came out with 233 BHP and a bucket of torquey things.

2nd visit was for variable boost control and a map tweak as i felt it was a bit brutal (but bloody good fun biggrin ). I asked them for mid-range rather than top end and they delivered just that. Overtaking is a breeze and she's seen near enough 160mph (GPS) in Germany a couple of years ago.

i had my map done by APS and am going to consider a custom remap soon from Jabba dependent on finances this summer as although a good map im not overly impressed with the results ive had from a rolling road session.
