T350 wont always start

Hi had my 350 for 6 months now & within that 6 months its not started on 6 occations all of them having the same symptoms which is
Turn key prime fuel pumps immobillser light goes out car turns over but will not start, and it only happens when the car is already warmed up ie small journey then will not start,I usally have to lock the car wait 5 to 10 mins or sometimes longer depending on whether luck is on my side and then BINGO it fires up first time what could this be?

Does it turn over and not fire, or does it just 'click'?

Hi Targaraman, it fires over but dosnt burst into life, its as if the ht lead has come off (which it hasnt) as if theres no spark.

It sounds as though it may be flooding . Next time it happens remove the fuel pump relay ( brown one , furthest away on the right hand side of board ) then try to start it again .It should start when it clears the excess fuel then dies after a couple of seconds when it runs out . Replace the relay then hopefully it should start . This is obviously a temporary cure and you probably need a service , David

Agree with Plastic man, sounds like its flooding. Won't do the cats much good either.

Do you start the car with any throttle or feet off the pedals?

Hi this problem never occurs when the car is starting from cold only when hot so i never use the throttle i just turn the key wait for it to fire but it never does have to say its only happened 6 to 7 times in the last 6 months yesterday being one of them. Looked on searches and read that someone had a problem like this turned out to be a faulty sensor (which is used for cold starting) which was flooding the the engine when it was hot anybody know which sensor this could be?

I had these symptoms when the temp sensor disconnected, makes fans operate all the time, but does confuse the electronics as it thinks it is starting from cold all the time which it did ok but would not start when warm, possibly temp sensor fault ?

Hi checked connections on temp sensor & someone had been there before! two new (not so new} ends crimped on but a bit of a rubbish fit so replaced them with new ones so see what happens fingers crossed, thanks

Hi sensor is underneath to the air box to the left(will have to remove air box)the cable that plugs to it says"water temp" so you cant miss it,but my problem wasnt that it was the fact I was flooding it when starting after it was warm dont use any gas pedal at all when starting from warm this should do the trick it has for me

When this happens, does the starter motor labour - ie, get slower and slower? Almost like the battery is dying?

If so, this happened to me when I first got my car. They thought it was a dodgy earth wire, which was fixed and seemed to sort the problem. But slowly it started to reoccur - about a year later. Turned out to be a knackered battery; it wasn't the car being hot, it was when i'd be using all the lights, A/C, radio, etc. It was draining the battery - which would stop me restarting it immediately. 30 mins later, it would fire up as if nothing was wrong.

Really hard to diagnose as well, cause it never did it when i took it to the garage. It was 18 months before it was eventually tracked down to be the battery.

Of course, if it's not like the battery is dying - then apologies for boring you with that little story and for being no help whatsoever!!

ropey I think ur spot on, it turned over but then for slower and slower and eventually stopped. Then went onto a click click click.. The battery voltage was showing 11.6v - would this not be enough to start it?

Ended up bump starting it and its been fine since, **touch wood**

Bump starting can really damage your catalytic converter(s) due to unburnt fuel getting in there.

You should always jump start or use a power bank / battery booster.

don't worry I'm not planning on making a habit of it.. Just really was the only option! But thanks for ur advice mate

replying a little late on this one, but have recently had the same problem (twice) - have posted about it a few weeks ago.

I phoned the garage and they said that it could be the earth wire, which i will get them to check, or the anderson connector cap might be full of junk. So i cleaned out the anderson connector cap (it was full of junk) and brushed out the crap on the connector itself, so far seems to be ok, although this problem is intermittent so not sure if it's cured it for good.

Interesting, as my Sag will not start at all, unless my foot is very slightly on the gas...

New crank sensor fixed mine, £30 for the part and and hour to fit and set up. Fixed the starting problem, now starts on the button every time with no throttle hot or cold
