I need to disconnect the alternator belt for a while to see if it's the alternator that's making my mysterious noise. I'd like to get in, get it off and get out as fast as possible. What's the quickest route so that I don't have to take all the gubbins off the top.

Cheers

I would have thought the fuel rail and aircon have to come out.
But I'm sure someone will come along in a minute to prove me wrong smile

Fuel rail for defo.

A/C pump you may get away with, depends how handy you are with the spaners.

Either way, it's pipes off, rail off and then bugger araound in the Vee.

For the taking off you may get away without taking the fuel rail off, but it is a definite removal job for replacement of the belt.

I replaced my alternator the other day without removing the fuel rail. Was a bit fiddly, but not too bad. Don't have a/c so didn't have that to worry about.

A 4.2 is completely different to a 4.5 in terms of access. 4.5 is a complete bar steward

Yep! I just had the fuel rail, inlets and HT leads out and back in an afternoon, that incl a lot of time cleaning sealant off the inlet heat gasket! The alternator would have been a doddle, but pricey.
