Has anybody linked their iPod to the standard stereo?

Is it possible to get some sort of kit that will charge the ipod at the same time as having it directly linked to the stereo without using the FM radio link thingy?

The radio frequency link thing loses a lot of quality in my experience. (Think the FM link is called an i-trip).

i have seen a link where someone has installed a 3.5mm phono jack soldered it directly into the sterio but it doesnt charge the ipod but you could get a normal car charger for that nor but you will not be able to control the ipod with the sterio

yes i have seen it done and working in a Monaro and it will charge.
I know he had to get some sort of pcb from oz and solder it onto the stereo but i can be done.
I was thinking of doing it myself.

the original itrip was rubbish and underpowered

There's one that sits in a cup holder and uses fm. Its relatively expensive but it also supports RDS if your radio does-it shows the track information on the radios display
