Wiper control unit revision?? burned out unit

Hi all, my Wiper Control Unit burned out and I've bought one from a breakers which I'd have thought would be a direct replacement... however it looks like the burned out unit was a revision unit dated '01. My cerby is '96 and the replacement WCU is from '97. The wiring on the circuit looks different - does anyone know if its safe just to replace it - unplug the burned out but newer unit, replace with older but working unit??

If it won't work I need to send it back to them by Friday to receive a refund so any knowledge would be well appreciated.
