Really like the looks of the S2 elise.

But before I start looking how much would it cost for a 31year old, clean licence 12 years NCB?

first time poster on the lotus section. and thanks to another PH poster "grumpy" really started to look at these fine cars

Only way to know that, is to ring around, like any car, it varies so much, even between people with similar circumstances. http://wiki.seloc.org/a/Insurance

Much better than what I was quoted, just got my perspective Exige insured for £980 through my current policy thats running for another 10 months (which is about £200 up for what i pay on my 182)

Also which Elise where you looking at a 111s is going to be very different to an 111r or even Exige.

Can't imagine it'll be too bad for you, but it'll depend on model.

I pay 870 on a base model S1, and I'm 23, 5 years NCB, 3 points with the car garaged.

I'm 28 with 5 years NCB and paying about £500 a year on a 2004 111S. That's only an estimated 5k miles though.

I'm about the same age as you, same ncb etc and I pay £600 a year with CCI. I got quotes well over £1,000 when I was looking!

Not too bad then, what insurance group are the S2?

I'm not really sure what i'm looking at. just something that takes my fancy and got a few toys for long trips to le mans in the future. looking about 20K'ish price range

Group 20 for any S2 from memory. As to S2 S, R or Exige it made £10 difference in my quotes! Even the Exige S only made £25 difference.

The insurance groups can be found here:

http://www.parkers.co.uk/cars/specs/Summary.aspx?m...

They vary from 17 to 20 depending on the car. Not sure of the accuracy of that page though. I think "insurance groups" are a bit meaningless these days anyway - their statistical models have got rather more advanced.

It's more about postcode than anything else. as a rule of thumb your best quotes will come from the specialists rather than the big names.

I found the opposite. Elephant/Tesco were cheapest for me by a significant margin.

I just purchased an S2, I thought I'd just transfer an existing policy to Admiral, but they were useless, they had so many Lotus cars listed that they couldn't find the S2 Elise S! I'm not sure which Lotus they quoted me on in the end, at one point they asked if it's a 1960's car! (no kidding).

I switched now to A-Plan; I used them before for an MR2, they were competitive then and still are now. Give them a go.
