Some advice over when the points should be replaced on an RV8?

No running issues at all on 96 500 Chim , but with a European trip due soon is it worthile taking the precaution of replacing them ? I've owned the car for 3 years & despite low annual and total mileage (11k) would this be a wise move ?

I do carry a spare set - are they diffuclt to replace & set-up. Advice appreciated.

I'm intrigued to know what points you have - they must be for a much older V8.
You have breakerless ignition - there are no points!

Whoops - of course i mean Rotor Arm wear - what is their life expectancy before becoming worn in age & mileage.

Are these parts left alone until you get a problem ie if it ain't broke, don't fix it !

Take the cap off and have a look to see how badly the contacts are pitted.

Also check the carbon button moves in and out ok in the top of the distributor cap.

So what does the 'carbon button' look like ? is it part of the dizzy cap or near it ?

look inside the dizzy cap, the carbon button makes contact directly in the centre of the top of the rotor arm.
