Potentially stupid question!

Should the water pipe from the inlet manifold to the water pump have a hole in it?
Removed a few bits today and on removing the above hose, the one which connects direct to the inlet manifold from the pump and not the steel heater pipe, appears to be blocked solid. Its a very thick pipe with a small id hole but tapers away to nothing and does not enter the inlet. Is it only a very small hole that has corroded up or is it blocked on purpose? would like to know before getting heavy handed with it!
Cheers

Hi
Just to be sure we are talking about the same pipe(s) -
Apart from the large feed from the rad there are two pipes off the pump - one goes to the steel pipe and directly to the heater the second goes to a similar pipe which goes to the manifold and then to the heater.
Both these flex pipes have approx 12mm holes all the way thro.
The pump spigot tapers but not to as small as you describe.
Hope this helps
David

The pipe in question is the one that is fixed into the manifold. I can see the outlet pipe to the steel heater pipe with the thermostat housing removed but this is the inlet and is no where near the 12mm heater pipes. I will take a picture tomorrow which I should have done anyway!
Thanks
Thanks
I guess you are referring to the heavy gauge steel spigot on the lower section of the inlet manifold? it should have a smallish hole (maybe 6mm ?) going through it into the cavity at the front of the manifold. The other heater metal pipe comes out in line with it at the rear of the cavity? Yes it should be a hole, my old wedge one was blocked too with a build up of rust etc. You will be surprised how easily it drills out. If you want to remove the pile of crud that breaks away get to it through the thermostat hole.

Yep that's the one! cheers for that. I guess it should be the same diameter right the way through then? and not tapering to nothing! Thanks

Hold your horses!
Is this the manifold inlet heater pipe? A lot of people have been removing this anyway, for lower inlet temperatures, so you might want to leave it blocked ;^)

I think we are talking about the pipes in the valley - the inlet heater which many of us have removed is the small taping off this going to the front underside of the plenum.
David
No its not the throttle heater, I will be removing this as part of the cooling job though. It seems as though there are a couple of variations on the inlet manifold spigots, mine is the same as dwgriffith post but different to djc1001.
Anybody know what the reason is behind this other than the obvious one pipe has a larger bore than the other.
Thanks
