Film 4 last night. (knowing film4 it will probably be on for the next month)
I know its been about for a few years now, but last night was the first chance I got to see it.
I thought it was stunning - one of things we are still great at producing: Gritty, powerful films made on a budget with a bit of ropy acting along the way and a handful of iconic cars.
It got nasty towards the end - but there was plenty of warning it was going to happen sooner or later! Brilliant cast too.
I did check but didn’t see anyone else post about it.

It is amazing - I last watched this ages ago; not long after it first came out. I remember thinking back then that, although the racism was abhorrent, it was not uncommonly extreme. Watching it again the other night, particularly the shop-lifting scene, the racism appeared to be so extreme as to be unimaginable. Hopefully this means that we are becoming a slightly less racist society?
It will be on loads of times now its been on Film 4.
I was suprised it was filmed (or based) mostly in Nottingham - although after a few recent trips to Derby I think I had a rose tinted view of the EastMidlands!!
I thought 'Dog' (don't know his actual name) from Lockstock played a great, but very short role in This is England.

I watched it with my GF and enjoyed it in a 'Ken Loach type' gritty drama. I thought a really great aspect was that the film maker allowed the audience to connect with the cast and have an amount empathy for them (all).
When the film took a spiral downwards it became obvious that 'Combo'(?) who managed himself to become agreeable to some of the less-extreme in the film, was clearly totally unhinged and was merely so right wing as this is the only sort of group who would tolerate him. If it had been 'Right-wing butterfly stamping' who accepted him he would have done that instead.
I think this film is indicative of the potential for, what appears to be moderate right-wing factions, to become a part of our society. I think it can become dangerous if we don't make sure that the hidden agenda isn't more sinister as it happened in the film.
I find it really hard to get to grips with understanding the difference, then working out if far right-wing politics are becoming more popular because the 'spin' is now better, or there really are some people who believe there is an 'in-between' stance which could work. It does appear though, that we are heading towards a more open right-wing stance in this country which I think is a natural route with the rise of the EU?
Either way, what a great film and does exactly what a good film should, rasie debating points.

Great film. Saw it at the pictures and twice since then.
The lad who played combo is a feckin brilliant actor IMO. The scene in the car when his ex dumps him is an amazing portrayal of getting dumped and then being totally gutted.
Shane Meadows has done some other crackers too; Dead Mans Shoes is def worth a watch.

+1He was great as Tommy in Snatch, but I wasn’t sure if that because he was set along side Jason Staythem (sp?) But he totally held his own in this role - such a believable character.
Although the lad from Emmerdale played a great part as Woody too
Hmm, dont know who that is, ah well. He was good in the film.
I did think they were portrayed as too soft though. Even if they weren't skins, living on a council estate in 83' under a Thatcher Govt would have resulted in a bit more extreme behaviour? I guess it made Combo the more extreme as a result though.

Certain aspects of it reminded me of a film I saw ages ago called 'i.d' - about an undercover policeman that gets drawn into the football hooligan life that he supposed to infiltrate.
However - as I said - its been ages since I last saw i.d.
