Chatting to my colleague who is an ex bobby about NIP's etc..

What's to stop me registering my other half as the owner/keeper of my daily drive, and me as hers.

Then if I trip a gatso in 'her' car, she receives the NIP, takes 13 working days to ID me as the main driver, and they're out of time to NIP me????

Would this be legal?

(FYI we're both fully comp on both cars so insurance isn't an issue)

Cheers
Dave

Right, so as long as the registered keeper gets the nip in time, there's no time limit to to NIP the actual driver?

No... 14 days to send the NIP to the registered keeper then if the driver is identified as a person other than the registered keeper 14 days after the date of that notification to send an NIP to them. Commencement of prosecution within 6 months of the driver being identified.

So this is no new scam - and everyone's wise to it..

Sorry

Does the 14 days only relate to GATSO offences?
What is the period NIP has to be issued when being stopped at the roadside??

There is none.
You're notified at that time of their intention to prosecute you

Done some more digging TA. Now realise the NIP was verbal "you will receive a summons in 4 weeks"...
Is it also true that summons should arrive within 28 days??

How old do you have to be to be a "registered keeper" of a motor vehicle? or do you have to be human? so register your car in your dogs name or your 6 month old kid and let them take them to court for falling to supply the requested info.

Register the vehicle with someone who doesn't have a driving license (and doesn't want one).
NIP is served on them, they 'can't remember' who was driving, and then can be prosecuted but can't get points on their non-existent license.

IIRC They will get points on a 'ghost' licence. If they then apply for a licence within 4 years those points will be already there.

So if you registered it in a 6 month old kids name could they get taken to court? they couldn't fill out the nip because they can't write
