Why doesn't MY engine bay lok that clean!
Thanks Guys. I didn't check the small carrier by the 80 amp fuse (80 on my Tam) as I was being talked at by a neighbour!
I'll check that today and attempt to pick up a relay from the nearest Pug dealer. It lloks OK, but I don't know how to spot if it's given up the ghost.

STEP1
Fuse No.36 in drivers panel; shared with Lambda heaters, this is the feed to the grey relay in the engine compartment.
Fuse No.35 on the T350 I am told
The main PS 100amp (80amp on T350) flat fuse is in the battery compartment. Look for the green, green/yellow wire connector first and pull this apart and check it’s continuity as it is prone to corrode. The main fuse is in the black plastic rectangular holder on the red cable, remove tape and open cover to check for continuity.
STEP2
The relay in the engine compartment can be checked whilst you have the battery box open. Put a +ve live supply from the battery to the green wire to the relay. The pump should operate without the ignition on if relay is OK. To replace the relay push the tabs back with two hands then with the third! pull out the relay. The pump and relay is from a Citroen and Peugeot405
Cable colours :- 1 signal green/yellow
2 -Neg ground/black
3 +ve supply to relay red (100/80A fuse)
5 +ve to power steer pump
STEP3
The steering pump cable from the relay has a connector and can be tested with a suitable heavy duty cable from the battery; 2 +ve 0-ve

Very helpful, thanks. Although I did find a simpler way of checking the relay; a friendly mechanic at the Pug dealer lent me one to try from his toolbox, and the PAS worked!
Apparently the PAS comes from the 106 (maybe the 405 too) and he did say that the pump was pretty sturdy and unlikely to fail. The relay however does break down.
Something to add to the list of spares to carry on the car.
