I have picked up a highly tuned GTIR kreg jap import from a friend.
The car stopped running 3 years ago and has been lying in his garage ever since.
I have not got the full story from him yet but he tells me it stopped running one day in the local ASDA car park.
He tells me he was not thrashing the car, but every car has ever owned has blown up so i take that info with a pinch of salt.

I have now got the car in my garage and have started to take the rocker cover off to see if there is anything obvious wrong.

I took the HKS plugs out and WD40 each cylinder.
It did not drain away so i am guessing the bores are OK.

I rocked the car slowly in 5th gear and all pistons are moving freely.
(Looking back i should have turned the crank by hand.

The timming chain is in place and turning freely but there is a point where the chain kind of goes slack then jumps.
I am no expert, not a mechanic but an engineer so i know the basics.

It looks to me like the timming is out between the cams.
Hence i am looking for any GTIR information i can get together especaily anything to do with timming the engine.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Also call Carl at Motorworx in Marlow (www.motorworx.net) if you get stuck on the GTiR - there is nothing he doesn't know about them.
