Timmy,

I think they only ever had an outside lock on the driver's side. The pax door was only lockable from the inside (At least mine is). You should be able to push the inner handle forward to lock (pull back to open). I had problems as mine wouldn't lock at all. I ended up filing off a little of the plunger on the outer handle push button. Try taking the interior trim off and you should be able to work out why it won't lock from the handle (assuming that is the problem).

Original outer handles were Cortina Mk2 (I think), these (again, I think) were both lockable from the outside at the front so "we" have one front and one rear handle.

Thanks Phil.

I didn't think many if any came with them on the passenger side. My old M used the same push forward handle, this doesnt lock doing it. Looks like an evening taking the trim off etc is in order

Mine has a lock on the outside passenger side and you can't lock/unlock it from inside. They are definately Cortina MKII.

Guys,,

They all came with passenger buttons blanked,, correct

They should all be lockable from the inside by pushing the opening lever forwards,,, correct (depending if the lock is working correctly)

If you can get hold of another barel, I bet it would just be a case of swapping the blank over to a lockable barel.... from memory I think its just a sirclip that holds the barel in the handle.

Try someone like old Ford Spares,, or around the autojumbles,,, you should be able to pick a lock barel up

Dont quote me but I bet its the case.

As you push the inner handle forward a connecting rod in the door moves back and, via a sort of bell crank, inhibits the outer push button from operating the latch. The problem I had was that although the inner handle would move forward the lock mechanism wasn't allowing the rod to slide into place to inhibit the outer handle (thus locking the door).

Removing the outer handle and filing off a bit from the plunger that's on the inside of the button allowed the latch mechanism to move so as to allow the lock rod / bell crank from the inner handle to move into place as it should. Errrr.... not sure if that's clear, I hope so!

Phil.
