We have got a few projects at work planned over the next year or 2. Some new websites, some updating old websites. These range from very 'basic' homepages with information and web forms to fairly complex online shops with thousands of images being uploaded daily and linking into our in house systems.

We have had initial quotes and given the sums involved feel it may be worthwhile looking at employing a web developer to do this in house as we have a number of projects planned in the future.

Can anyone give me an idea of the sort of money i should expect to need to pay for someone, i.e. what's the going rate?

Finally, are there any particularly good places to recruit this skilled person from? Websites, Agencies etc?

Thanks,
Tim.

How about talking to some of your local universities about doing projects with some talented students, or offering them a placement if you have a good understanding of what it is you need doing? Might be a cost effective solution if you can put a bit of input in yourselves?

All depends on how skilled, talented and experienced you're looking for.

I'd say from £20k up to over £60k (dep on region)

check out www.et-tu.com, used to know the owner a few years back and seems to have lots of pleased punters, local uni's also worth a go, but get the contract sorted so that u have a copy of the code that u can change smile

An experienced (contract) web developer will probably be around £250-£400 per day.

Thanks for the replies - May ask at local Unis/Colleges and see what skills there are available. The salaries mentioned were in the area i expected, so not too big a shock.

Scraggles - That website doesn't seem to work (even when i remove the ,) Is that correct?

Cheers,

Tim
