E36 key fob fault - hazards stuck on

Went canoeing this afternoon and stupidly put my keys in the wrong (non water proof) pocket and the fob got drenched. The fob doesn't work obviously, but I was able to unlock the car with the key and start it and drive it OK, but the hazard warning lights kept flashing all the way home (but no alarm noise - not even sure if it has an alarm)

I'm off to Le Mans in it next week so really need to get it sorted. What can I do? If it is the alarm playing up I don't mind having the alarm and immobiliser disabled permanently as I live in a very safe and quiet area.

Car is a 1997 325 TDS touring, E36 shape. Many thanks for your help.
