My first post on a forum so please forgive any mistakes.

I have a 4.2 Cerbera which had cylinder head leaking water, the engine has now been removed from the car and partially stripped with a view to replacing the damaged head. On removing the heads it appears one bore is damaged as are the piston rings and piston.

Any ideas who to contact for spare parts and advice on rebuilding the AJP 4.2. Looks like i need at least one piston, new rings (the current ones are all standard), Head gaskets etc. Also thought about replacing the crank and big end bearings at the same time.

Can the engine be bored out at all, if so does anyone know by how much

Any other points to check whilst the engine is stripped? Crank and cams etc all look good so far!

The water leak appears to be where someone has ground away material from the head near the nuts that hold the head down to the block. The tiny jet of water was landing directly on the rear ignition coil. The second hand head i have has not been ground in this area.

Does anyone have a manual scanned or CD on rebuilding the AJP8 ? More than happy to buy one if they are avaialble?

Sorry if this is a bit long winded but as i said it is my first attempt at a post and i am pretty desperate.

Any advice greatfully recieved

WELCOME

Sorry that your first post is a cry for help, but first posts often are. smile

You need to talk to Don at TVR Power re the bits: http://www.tvrpower.co.uk/

There are manuals around for th AJP8 but they are not a Haynes style book, they cover an engine build from bare block.

Thanks for the welcome and contact details. Definatley helps.

Are TVR power the only source of parts?

Ref the manual its nearly down to the bare block now, i have taken lots of picture to help with the reassembly just wanted to know if there are any specifics to look out for assembly and getting the timing correct.

Could still do with a look at a manual, i found the torque settings by searching this forum, which is a good start.

Any have a manual or contact details for one?
Thanks again Mark

wavey Hi Mark - see you're in Cambs! Me too. I have access to a manual I believe - will have a hunt. Drop me an email and let me know where you are, or a mobile number and lets see if I know someone locally who can help you smile.

Nope, you can also contact Paul at Austec Racing in Surrey. He will be able to help you out, and probably source you better quality parts than std TVR parts i.e better shell bearings, better piston rings and pistons etc. He may be able to source you the head etc.

Remember, if you are going to replace the head, you will to get them skimmed together becuase of the 'V' and its best to get your deck height matched, because if you get this wrong, you will be in all sorts of trouble and may not get a good seal on the liners to the head.

Sorry for your woes on your fist post...

try Ebay, there was someone selling one for a 4.2, and there are people on here that have them.

I had one for a 4.2, but sold it to Pher AJP Griff. All I was interested in was the pictures just to have a lok really, but you will need to be mechanicaly minded to be working from this and build the AJP.

I wish you the best of luck
