I've had my tom tom 910 for about 4 years now, but it won't switch on anymore. I've tried resetting it. If I plug it into the car it will (after 5 mins or so) switch on for a bit then switch itself back off. I've tried leaving it plugged into the car over night, no joy. The green light on the top of the unit is on when it's plugged into the car. Is the battery faulty? I did charge it before I came out, and have only used it while it's plugged into the car. I cant try the mains charger, as i'm in Canada at the moment (also why i'm a bit desperate to get it to work!)

I've had exactly the same problem, and afraid i cant provide a solution. Mine packed up in the mountains of Italy [of all the bloody places....] and steadfastly refused to do anything until 2 weeks later when it just came on of its own accord and has been fine since. It's going to a shop soon so if they find anything wrong with it ill post up in this thread.

Underneath the unit where the mount goes in, there is a small recessed reset button...

Basically it looks like this, imagine holding it upside down with the screen towards you:

O------/.\

the O is the mcx connector that would mate with an external aerial, the -'s are the row of finger connectors and the /.\ is the recessed reset button - it's more circular than angular but you get the point!

Anyways, get hold of a pin, and prod it into the reset button - hold it for a second or two and release it, it should start up off the power switch now. If it doesn't, then it may be totally flat (even tho it's been on charge for god knows how long) as they don't charge up when in a "failed" state. Plug it into the ciggy lighter and let it have a few seconds of juice before trying to turn it on.

Hope this helps smile

Mine did this - the power connection in the screen mount may be faulty.

My old TomTom Go did the same thing. One minute plugged in working fine, ("In 200 yards, turn left"), then just switched itself off, never to work again.

I do wonder if they have some sort of in-built shelf life? Maybe they work for so many 100's of hours before burning out?
Have you tried resetting it? It works in the majority of cases.

sorry to resurrect an old topic, but might be helpfull for someone else (remember these units cost £500 new, oh and mine is only 2 years old)

I have tried everything, including buying a new mount and replacing the battery (not an easy thing to do) and it's still dead. Symptoms are that the green "getting power" light on is on all the time, but the unit only switches on for about 10 seconds...and then goes off....then on...then off. Just after I changed the battery it worked for a few hours. It seems like the unit is not charging the battery. I've now given up on it and brought a 730T but I am a bit upset...as I say it cost £500 two years ago, and it hasn't been used that much, certainly not more then a few times a month. (I did try a Tom Tom 1 XL but didn't really like it).

I have had exactly the same problem i.e. the sat nav won't turn on even when plugged into the cradle. I have just pressed the reset button whilst holding down the power button and it has sprung into life. I wish I had done that yesterday before I went out and bought a new satnav.
