Iam trying to find the cause of a bad knocking noise on my 04 plate manual gallardo. The noise is from the rear of the car,it tends to happen mostley when pulling away from a standstill or at low speed, preesing the clutch pedal down stops the noise then letting it back out it comes back, once up to 30-40mph the noise is gone.It must be transmition related and the car is currentley on a ramp with the gearbox cover removed, nothing seems to be lose, might try changing the oil and adding an additive i know Lamborghini do this.I should mention that the car does'nt always make this noise but it is becoming more often. If anybody has any ideas i would be very greatful.

The anti-roll bars make a knocking noise. This is normal according to LHW.

Is it more pronounced when going round a corner? If so, its the diff, mine did that until it was serviced and the oil changed, Lambo recommend a different viscosity oil these days. Cured it immediately.

the arb are very popular as a problem. to rectify it you can clean up the mounts, bushes and arb and re grease with copper grease or you can replace the bushes the nylon ones which are better quality.

the diff my require the thicjer oil to be put in if this is the problem.

there isn't a different oil for the gear box as far as i am aware.

try the ARB and thicker diff oil first as it is the easiest ones to do first before you start removing gear box and so on

Thought i should let you all know that the gearbox noise problem has been sorted,we had to add a jaguar diff addative to the gearbox oil,it took 100 miles or so for it to take affect but is now perfect, cant belive that 100ml of addative would make so much differance.

The mention of Jaguar branded liquids reminds me that I used some Jaguar branded satnav 'screen protector' gunk that I bought off the Supagard web site, where it was described as 'satnav screen cleaner'. It comprehensively fked the screen on the Gallardo, which is actually quite irritating.
