Replacing gaiter

Hi , Sorry if this is answered elsewhere, but I've searched and cannot find the information.
I have an 1993 Chimaera and I've just purchased a new leather gaiter , However upon trying to fit it I cannot find how to release the door control "golf ball " , I've searched the forums and noticed that others have posted saying there is a allen screw located near the base , But I've searched and cannot find one !! .

Can anyone advise how I remove this item ?

Yep allen grub screw about 3-5mm up from the base of the ball, it's a small allen somthing like 2mm.

Hi , Sorry but I cannot find a grub screw ,
I have inspected the Golf ball and even used a dentist's mirror to view it and there is no grub screw anywhere to be seen.

It's a early chimaera if that makes any difference , below the golf ball is a chrome disk around the leather gaiter and below that a 17mm spanner size nut .

Can anyone offer any other advice ??

I've yet to try this on my '99 chim, but I believe that the disk just under the golfball is effectively a locking nut. Have you tried undoing this (obviously with lots of padding)?

Yes I've tried undoing this nut without much success !

As the existing leather Gaiter is so badly worn it will pull up and over the golf ball , leaving the chrome ring and the nut behind .

Once the centre unit has been removed I can gain access to the nut , I had hoped that by tighting the nut up tight against the ball and then applying pressure to the golf ball it would undo but it didn't work.

I'm at a complete loss and I'm hoping that someone on here will have an answer !

I need to do the same job on my '94 Chim. Where did you buy the gaiter from?

There is a very small allen key socket hole to the front (towards dash) of the door release knob near it's base. Very careful undo it and the knob just pops up.

The ring is just stitched into the leather and does nothing.

I purchased the gaiter via ebay the ebay store is called Gaiters-Boots-com

The gaiter is very good quality with all the fixing centres prepunched
