The passenger door solenoid on my Chim has started intermittently chattering loudly - it seems to be related to movement of the car, but I can also hear a faint relay chatter coming from the passenger side dash.

Has anyone had the same happen? I assume I'd need to take the dash-top off to get to the relay, so dont particularly want to do this until I've identified whether it's a solenoid fault, wiring fault, or relay fault.

Cheers guys

the bit that door lock slots into needs to be tightened up, they loosen off very easily, this prevents the switch making or breaking cleanly causing the solenoid to chatter.......well it did on ours anyway

My doors were chattering because they pin in the door sill wasn't making contact properly - cleaned it up with some swich cleaner and problem went away.

What he said! Or the rubber disc on the door is not pushing the pin/interior light switch in properly.

Cheers for the suggestions, but I'm still struggling - it's BLOODY annoying! Tried to isolate the problems suggested above, but none of them worked:

ideaI tightened up the 3 screws holding the lock in place, but it hasnt made any difference.
ideaOne of the solenoids sounds worn (sometimes 'graunches' loudly) - must be the slave one as it only has two wires to it. Tried disconnecting this.
ideaUnplugged one of the wires to the door pin incase this was the problem. I had previously noticed that the interior light was flickering on and off, but disconnecting the door pin made no difference to the door chattering.

When the solenoid is unplugged I can still hear the relay under the dash chattering away, so something must be confusing it. Any more ideas? I'm stuck!

Could be the central locking relay is faulty
Its normally located under the dash but on mine it was hanging under the glove panel thingy

When you get to it, take the plastic cover off the relay & see if theres any sign of corrosion on underside of relay (usually below one of the capacitors)
Or try & swap it with someone elses to test it

I've been through 2 in a year....

Check that the black stopper that the door pin plunger hits is still there(on the lower part of the door). If not, then the plunger contact wont be fully disengaging and the central locking will keep think the door is opening every time you go over a bump...
