Bit of an odd request this one but at least I'm in the right forum!

On my TVR I would dream of using black tyre paint, I prefer to use a clear finish like wonder wheels rubber dressing which restores the look of the tyre and gives a semi-matt finish, however...

I also have a 50 year-old classic Aston Martin which has big 16" cross-ply tyres and I want to make them look nice. I spent some time this morning experimenting with my wonder wheels stuff and some bumper black but the tyres just dried back to a rubbery brown! So... has anyone any experience of using tyre paint and if so is there a best brand to go for? I don't want glossy shiny rubber just subtle semi-matt black.

Thoughts/comments? Cheers Rich...

p.s. here's the machine in question...

Frost do something called Tyre Black Gloss. You can find them at frost.co.uk
I've not tried it myself, but it may be worth a look.

Yeah, I saw that on the internet, but then Halfords also do a black tyre dressing/paint. Anyone else got any recommendations?

We had spray stuff that tasted of lemon, it sprayed out in a foam and within 10 mins it had blackened the tyres up nicely.

Boot polish ... put loads on and leave it, go back later and buff up to a shine - but not a false shiny shine if you know what I mean ...

Armorall Tyre Magic is the stuff we used! Its great, its not glossy at all and the more you use it, it builds up.

Einzett make a wonderful matt tyre product available via their website.

Aerospace #303 and Zaino Z16 are also two products well worth taking a closer look at.

Blackfire Tyre Dressing is a fine product with real durability.

Spend some time on detailingworld.com to see who makes the best tyre dressings, matt or gloss.

Just remember to gently clean the tyre with a decent all purpose cleaner and a brush before dressing.
