HI there
Have just replaced seven plugs, but having trouble with no6. Can't quite get it to start on the thread.. Not been heavy handed, so I don't think I have cross threaded. Still can't get it to start. NOt maybe getting the angle of the dangle right?
Anybody got any tips?
Definitely don't want to force it, and obviously want to avoid taking the head off if I can.

Hi there
Using a standard type spark plug tool about 9" long with a short svrewdiver to turn it. Can't get into it with my fingers. As I try to start it it appears to bind. Don't want to apply too much prsssure in case I cross thread it.
Hopefully I haven't got the angle right.
However, what if the thread has crossed. Can I fix it with head on, or is it a definite head off job?
I know of spark plug thread tools but can they be used with the head on or only with it off.
Scared to go near it now!!!
Starting to panic here
Cheers

HI there
Stil can't get any joy. Have rempved the heater pipes to try and give some extra room, but still can't get the thread to start. The hole is so deep down and inaccessible.Getting the rocker cover bolts out was a challenge in itself. Why is everything so difficult on a TVR???
Have ordered one of those spark plug re-threader tools from Frost.
Trying to avoid the head off job at all costs.
Anybody any advice??

To be honest, using the thread chaser when you seem unsure about the exact hole location doesn't seem the best idea to me.I dont want to sound patronising, but have you taken a look at the other plug in the cylinder 2 places away,to get a good idea of the angle and height of entry? Also worth mentioning that you need to lift the plug a little as you try to insert it,as the hole isn't quite at the lowest point of the casting opening,if that makes sense?
Get a plug socket, fit the plug in that, and screw it in by hand. The plug socket is bigger and longer and makes it easy to get a grip. Always screw it right down by hand though, you should only use a bar for the final tighten. If you've only screwed it in by hand then you're most unlikely to have damaged the threads.
Tried hand, short plug socket, long plug socket, another plug. Don't seem to have too many options left right now.
All other seven were fine. Going to try the thread chaser packed with grease, to catch any cuttings. If not then it's top off, which is what all this nonsense is to avoid!!!

Had this one before and was told to try it like this, before I start, it did work.
Hold plug in hand by finger and thumb, turn body and rest your bum on the wing, that's right you are now facing away from the engine looking into space.
Put hand with plug down into engine bay and still not looking back, feel your way to the plug hole.
Gently place the plug down into place and gently screw into place.
Apparently with your hand going in at this angle the knuckles are then not in the way and you have full flex of the hand and fingers.
It does work, its sounds mad, but it worked for me.
