Hi Wedge People,

I have just bought a very early (May 1980) Tasmin 280 FHC. I need to pick the collective brains please. The driver's door has a fair bit of play in the door hinge. I have managed to source a pair of hinge bushes courtesy of TVRCarParts but I need to know how to get the door off to fit them please. Presumably the door does have to come off?

The second interesting feature of my new wedge is that the speedo reads 105 mph when the car is doing 70 mph! Anyone come across this before or have any suggestions as to the cause and the cure please?

All help gratefully received. Many thanks,

Phil

The door is bolted to the body by 4 x 13mm nuts going locatd in 2 x brackets top and bottom - the bolts are screwed in. You need to unbolt the 2 nuts nearerest to you before unscrewing the bolts before accessing the other 2. Before removal, mark the position of the bracket and get someone to help you taking the door off and re-fitting making sure the bracket is aligned to the marks you made before removing.

I used to own chassis no.10 FHC. smile

Doors I don't know, but speedo...outside chance is that wrong nylon gear wheel, at the end of the cable which goes into the side of the gearbox has been fitted(retained by circlip). These have varying numbers of teeth. Wrong one...wrong reading.

Most Fords used this arrangement.

Another possibility is a faulty voltage regulator for the instruments, but here I'm pushing my memory. hehe

With regard to the door, you may find it easier to remove the door from the door frame. Frame = one horizontal bar.
Remove door panel. Remember when you remove the panel the interior lights come on so either turn em off or dis battery.
Undo the bolts/screws in rear of the door and it will slide off the frame.
You may just want to just slide it back a few inches just to give access to hinge bolts.

Note. the bushings do not like petroleum products, so synthetic only.

Good time to replace window runners, no need to remove them just put in generic and cut to length.

Adjusting door is a two man job. (well it's much easier)
