does anyone know why i have been given the option to plead guilty (97 in a 70) and not attend court whereas 2 mates (80 in a 50, 107 in a 70) have not been given that option and will have to attend , does this mean i won't get a ban whereas they will? Also have the french police got any way of knowing if you are banned in the UK if you get stopped in France?

I don't know about that - it's very easy for them to dish out a harsher sentance if you aren't there, looking scared and apologetic.

You're better off attending voluntarily, whatever you choose to plead. It may also stick in your mind next time you're doing 97..

Out of curiousity, what was the method of detection, and what road?

Good luck!

Bit late for that as i've already sent the paperwork back saying i wont attend , also i'm not a good enough actor to be able to pull off 'scared and apologetic' when i'm being lectured in court.
It was a marked volvo on the A3 southbound just after it becomes 70mph limit .

ooops. Sorry about that.
Ok, next time (and let's hope there is no "next time"), why not ask PH readers first?

French plods won't have any idea whether your license is valid or not. However, your insurer may / will. So if anything happend you may be in trouble.

It occurs to me that a bit of research could come up with the optimum licence to hold ie the easiest to get that is recognised to drive in Britain, France etc.. Maybe Afghanistan?

probably something like a Greek license (as it would have to be an EU country).. you will be tested on your ability to drive very fast indeed along dusty cart tracks in a 15 year old Fiat with no brakes or lights.

Thereafter you will be questioned by a bloke called Spiros on your knowledge of Greek stereotypes and photographing 'up for sale' military aircraft whilst ignoring adjacent signs which tell you not to..

A friend of mine drives on a Namibian driving licence...plod can never be bothered with the paper work. The insurance quotes on the other hand are another matter, if you knew what the Namibian driving test (didn't) entail you'd understand why !!

an old friend told me how he got his driving licence on the '60s in the aussie outback. He drove to local plod in his new car, plunked a bottle of whisky on his desk and said "Rog, I need a driving licence". Plod wént outside with him, asked him to reverse 10 yds., which he did - and that was it. Got his licence.
