Tuesday, trial pack for Le Mans.

Today, Car wont start, 111S, click, click, click.

Jump start, no problem. Now I can normally leave it three weeks without a problem so assume it's the battery.

Panic sets in, only three days to go. Now, I'm working Monday and Tuesday so need to get it sorted.

Off to my local motor-factors, closed due to re-location, so Halfords it is.

"This one has a four year wotsit Sir and we can fit it for £4 quid".

Now I've built two and a half cars and I actually let them fit it, I was worried about problems with the alarm/immobiliser if I took the battery off.
I was working out how to over-come this using another battery etc, "No problems Sir, we'll use a code safe".

To be fair all was fine, all be it I was £70 lighter in pocket.

So, off on a 30 mile drive to meet with some of the lads I'm going with, five miles from the meet I do that stretchy wriggle thingy and lift up in the seat and happen to look in the mirror, of course I'm higher so I can see my interior light, which is on.....................

Don't feel too bad - chances are the old one would not have been as good after being run so flat. At least it wasn't the alternator.

I am on battery number 3. Last one was a pikey £22 one from a motor factor and that has lasted two years without issue so far.

I am on battery no 5, I gave up on expensive ones, they all seem to last about the same time!

Thought I'd be clever and order a new battery off the internet (saving a few pounds biggrin) and fit it myself (and thus save a few more pounds biggrinbiggrin) ... ... I mean how difficult can that be??biggrinbiggrinbiggrin

WTF furiousfuriousfuriousfuriousfurious

Who the hell designs a battery compartment on the S1 and then surrounds it with wiring looms, plastic covers and to complicate matters mine also has a cartek cut-out in there??? smashsmashshootshootshoot

It's taken me 2+ hours of cursing and weapons grade advanced french linguistics to remove the old battery (I tell you it's the spawn of satan ragerage) and fit the new one and in the process, accidently strip off the spade connector on one wire ... remove skin from several knuckles, kill my back from bending over into the stupid front compartment, draw silly diagrams to enable me to remember which wire goes where ... a pox to that ... that's the last time I do anything on the car ... jesus christ that's only a simple job ... no wonder they stopped selling them !!! ragerageragerage

... and breathe ....
