Right.. finally mmadanaged to buy the Exige I wanted but now have to sort out the insurance. Since I didn't own a car in the last couple of years (living overseas and having a motorcycle) I don't have any NCB to speak of which makes the policy quite expensive. mad Any tips on that? Anyone been in a similiar situation? I have owned high-performance cars before that as that seems to make a difference but not sure which.

Check the buyers guide for a list of companies to phone. If you have no NCB, you'd better hope that you live in a safe area, or it'll be trousers down and vaseline time...

Some insurers will give you a degree of credit for claim-free years on a bike - ask 'em!

Depending on whether a cheque arrives for money that i am owed in the next couple of days , by an insurance compnay that was recommended on here,i will be telling both you and the rest of the motor car world who NOT to use.

You know who you are and you have been warned, no more Mr Nice Guy so pull your bloody finger out..............redface

I bought a S1 after decades on motorbikes only, and 'Direct Line' and 'Tesco' said they would honour the NCD from a bike in full...or maybe Tesco said half of it ( 1 year car for every 2 on bike )

The problem was both of these back then (2005) demanded trackers, which wiped out all the savings, and they weren't better than others even with the NCD swap.

HOWEVER....a good tactic, especially if you have a tracker, is to go with them for a year (unless they are real silly ) and THEN move elsewhere, as now you will ( hopefully ) have full 'car' NCD and everyone bending over backwards to get your business smile

You can wipe out the high price of year 1 by opening yourself to far better quotes the next year.

If you go with 0 NCD you will still only be quoted as a 1 year NCD'er on renewal, hopefully.

That will still be expensive.

Try DL and Tesco!

Yup, short term pain for long term gain would be the best route IMHO. Even if they are more than other quotes you've had, as once the NCD kicks in the year after, you're sorted.

Yep, was the same here as well, cheapest by about £500-600 for me.

Not that far ahead, there were two others coming close within 100 GBP. A colleage gave me a recommendation for her insurance (www.diamond.co.uk) which was similiar but then I didn't need a handbag cover yikes
