Just got my Classic tickets today. I notice on every ticket it clearly shows NO flip-flops, no shorts etc. Suggesting full long trousers, shoes etc. This is for the entrance as well as the paddock etc.

Only been to the standard LeMans event before, never the classic. Is this the real dress code or the "suggested" dress code. Anyone been before and seen who gets in, and who (if anyone) get rejected??

Didn't notice anyone checking for appropriate dress on the way into the circuit but they were definitely checking at the entrance to the paddock areas.

That said it wasn't all that rigidly enforced in the paddock areas particularly if the first few members of your party were appropriately dressed then they tended to lose interest in the rest.

We went in 2004, & the paddock entry did state a dress code then. I had a polo shirt & combats on & was fine.
I would suggest that the bare chested/football shirted/flip flopped look may struggle.

I concur with the others, the CLM orgainsers are trying to encourage a smarter dress code, it isn't enforced but if you are without shirt and look very casual they may use the notice to stop you entering.

Looking at there webpage and the picture of period dress. Is this event a themed event? If so what year? Is it supposed to be like that silly themed Goodwood event? Or just smart dress, in which i agree.

It says the "classic" period as far as Le mans goes can encompass anything from the '40s to the '80s (yay, espadrils and pastel linen ala Don Johnson!).

People tend to get into the spirit more at the Classic and have a bit of fun, so I expect a lot of dapper suits and trilbis will be in evidence smile

They're not trying to be Goodwood, just asking people to dress accordingly...

Interesting... I do agree about trying to keep it a bit "upmarket" - I guess as long as we don't look like we are going to a football match it should be fine. Just that if its 30degs and sunny (I wish!) then long trousers etc can be a pain, but all for trying to keep the theme. Hope to see you guys there.

According to what?

Can't see your average Frenchie being told what to wear can you?

I will wear what I want and sod "the suggested" control freak "we have ways of making you dress" ....... could things be worse if the Germans had won the war?

I've been to the previous two Classics. Anyone expecting some period dressing will be disappointed. Shorts, trainers and tee shirts will be OK for anywhere including the paddock, whatever ACO say, based on my past experience.

Thats the way i am thinking Vetteheadracer.
Regarding the Period Goodwood thing. If i was in period dress for that time then i would either have to dress as an Indian Prince or an Indian waiter serving the cravatted ponces which i would not have been allowed to mix withbiggrin Mind you flip side even German nazi dress would be a touch much even if they are showing a Auto Union racer or a Silver arrows.
Oh and i am not getting heavy, i am just adding humorous observations;)

So the concensus is that I'll get in wearing espadrils, salmon pink linen trousers and a pastel jacket with the sleeves rolled up then? cool

ps; Anyone got a Jan Hammer CD?

Accordingly that you're at an event, not the beach....

As I have previously mentioned, they're not trying to be Goodwood and don;t require people to be dressed in period attire. Shorts, T Shirt and shoes have been fine in the past, I see no reason why this would change.

Basicaly, do not look like you have just stepped out of a caravan....or a tent....

in 06 they were not enforcing a dress code although it was mentioned on the tickets so i doubt it will be that enforced this yea, although Period dress is usually very hot.

Been twice before and agree with above... not sure where the tolerance ends, but I too was in polo shirt, canvas type khaki shorts (i.e. not swim type ones..) and trainers and nobody batted an eyelid in the paddocks. Might be worth chucking some long trousers in the boot just in case though ?
