Set off from home yesterday. A Mile later the engine dies, pull up in a layby, can't get it restarted.

Just changed the plugs, leads and coil, one of which had cured the miss-fire I had. My immediate thought is mmmm that Cheap Coil I fitted, I wonder! Call the RAC, just as I finish the call a lady pulls up and asks if I need a lift anywhere. I advise the RAC are on the way and thank her thinking that was good, somebody actually stopped.

During the next 20 mins waiting for the RAC, bonnet up and hazards on I was passed by loads of open tops, no one stops or slows. In fact two MG's passed, beeped their horns and waved as if it was a big joke doh! What is it with people?

RAC turned up, checked the coil and confirmed it was dead, nipped back to mine to get the old one and on my way!!!

One new coil + 2 short journey's = one duff coil!

its jealousy mate, lets be honest, its the only time they are going to pass you, and makes them feel a little better about having no warranty

Before yesterday would you have stopped if you saw an MG or anything else broken down?

This is a normal response. It allows fellow human beings to justify to themselves that their boring existence is the right waywink

It's mostly because they've heard the bad press about them always breaking down so when thay actually see one broken down they have to mock.

Had a similar thing myself over a year ago when my alternator gave up one lovely sunny saturday afternoon, every road user that day found it highly amusing .............. got numerous hoots on the horn from, yes you guessed it, porsche drivers, someone in a Ferrari just smiled at me and someone in a Ford Fiesta (i think it was) actually slowed to an almost stop to advise me that i should have got myself a decent motor, i mean all TVR's have dodgy alternators don't they and no other make of car has EVER had a dodgy alternator.

My every day car is an MGF.... Difference is I would've stopped and tried to assist...... And no, my MG hasn't broken down or had HGF. Guess I've got all of that to look forward to.... ;o)

Cheers,
