I was at the Classic Speed fair yesterday and an F40 was out on track, the commentator said that the driver would have his foot flat to the floor all the way from the exit of the hairpin up to the braking point for the 1st corner.
When I was about 8 or 9 the F40 was my favourite car, I had never seen one and it looked amazing in my eyes from the pictures and posters I had on the wall. I saw a red one at the Scottish Motorshow when I was 10, I think, I was really disappointed, it looked like a model, it didn't look real. I was taken to Le Mans over the next 4 years and I realised that Prototypes were far better looking and faster than this car I had dreamt about, I saw a few racing at Le Mans and they were fairly unspectacular, noisy but nothing special. Back to yesterday...
I was really disappointed again. It was the 1st time I had seen a road going version moving. The car was quiet! In my reckoning, if you own a big red car that costs the earth to buy, it should sound like that too, it should make the ground shake under full revs. It was shouted off the circuit by the Scuderia Ecosse F430 GT car. That was cool!
Sorry to all the F40 owners here but are you disappointed by it?
On another note, the Ferrari Challenge cars were not that fast, lapping the same speed as a mid-field Caterfield.
I am not trying to troll, sorry if it seems that way!

F40 quiet?? Mine is 114db on the static with no cats and tubi style system on it.
Yes, quiet, compared to an FIA GT car or purpose built Prototype. I expect supercars to shout not whisper. As for your car, how is the consumption on it?

There are some seriously ridiculous questions asked on here at times.
My old F40 (owned 10 years ago) had straight through pipes - the only silencing were the cats and the wastegate was not silenced at all.
The noise was great when on the outside watching but never as good inside - something to do with the central exhaust position.
What was impressive was the popping and banging on the overrun and the flames coming out of the exhaust - fantastic memories

The F40's are useless thread. God help us.
That wasn't my aim when I started the thread. It is my own observation, not everyone will agree with me. Edited by absolutely on Monday 9th June 21:23

I can vouch for this car sounding absolutely awesomeWas always my dream car and still is.

Even if I had one without an engine, I still dont think I'd be disappointed with it!
And being as about the same round a tight track as a Caterfield is not exactly a downer...
they're track cars that are designed to be quick! Some people!
Do you have a downer on everything in life? Edited by Jonty355 on Tuesday 10th June 08:07

Obviously any road car is going sound quiet compared to a car prepared for racing. And if an F1 car was on track at the same event as a GT racer you'd be thinking how quiet the GT was. There are rather different considerations between road and race cars. I've seen and heard plenty of F40s in all sorts of contexts. Without question the F40 is one of the greatest cars ever made. They look and sound utterly fabulous and I can tell you now you're in distinct minority in thinking otherwise. And if you really think they're quiet I suggest you get your hearing aid fixed.Jonathan
