I recently changed the engine mounts on my Griff after noticing that things were dressing a bit to the left. Quite a straight forward job but as said by others on here a 17mm ratchet spanner helps.
I was however surprised to find the two mounts I removed are different in design. One has more rubber moulded at each end is marked TOP at the appropriate point. This one looks to be far more sturdy than the other one. Unfortunately the new ones I fitted are of the flimsier type. Question is does anybody know where to source the more sturdy ones ?

[/pic] When I was up at SC-Power the other week they showed me a sample of some of the mounts on the market (and how easily they were all distroyed when running a blower).
I am just about to fit some of their new fully encapsulated poly mounts which certainly look very good, we'll see how they cope.

There are two types - I've been looking at engine mounts as they are knackered on my V8S.
Mine are both the solid type.
Solid type

Type with a hole (don't know why)

Incidentally mine were shot like yours but they were also mounted upside down.

I just bought the ones with the bulge from Ebay/Partsrange/RPI. Very good service. They explained that the ones with the bulge are the older/original items. Mine had an Austin/Rover part no. They also deliver the SC brackets. It took me some time to figure out which way they should go and where to fit the spacer. I am just back from the garage and it looks like I just need to finish it off by tightening the bolts. My guess is that it's more important to fit the brackets than to use the older or newer mount.
The set up of the mounting is quite critical with respect to the manifold clearance on early cars. Also see Barretti smell article.

Out of interest is the part number on your new mounts as per the Rimmer web site ? http://www.rimmerbros.co.uk/rimmer/rover/sd1/mount...

Ive just fitted a pair from clevor trevor and they were the same as the ones i took off.
Question i posted on the chim forum why does one side (driver)have a spacer and the other side not?
It's a TVR, what do you expect ? Mine also had a spacer driver side only. Question i posted on the chim forum why does one side (driver)have a spacer and the other side not?
A well-known and reputable parts specialist told me that the Rover 2000 mounts, although visually similar to the 3500 mounts (and hence the original TVR mounts), are softer and hence not suitable for TVRs. Apparently these are what are commonly sold as 'original' mounts. They are original Metzlers, but 2000 spec, not 3500.
The aftermarket mounts with a hole in are presumably softer than the solid mounts.
Are the polyurethane mounts available actually polyurethane? I think there might some conufusion with normal aftermarket mounts and reinforcing brackets, which have a polyurethane button to take up the space missing on the aftermarket mounts, where the 'bump' is on the original Metzlers.

These are the new polymounts. I have bought a set.
The following is copied from an email I received.
The polyurethane we use in the mounts have similar characteristics to the rubber used in the standard engine mounts so you shouldn't feel much difference if you make the change. The real difference will be in the life of the mount especially if your car is up rated.
On my SC500 I could tear a brand new mount clean in half when pulling away on the high grip road surfaces you find around pedestrian crossings which is how the original restraints came about
We are going to be doing a introductory price for these mounts which will be £39 each inc VAT.

Could the spacer be to compensate for what appears to be a smaller mounting on the right side. The difference from the photo looks to be equal to the thickness of the spacer?Question i posted on the chim forum why does one side (driver)have a spacer and the other side not?

Mounts exactly and the same spacer is quiet normal.
Well that's what ive been told.

way i see it,much easier to space a chassis that is to wide in that area than have a chassis to narrow for the mounts to fit
hopefully someone may come up with the real reason for the spacer
