quiet day at the ranch today and I was surfing around google earth and noticed that there is an aircraft on display outside the museum, it is a few years since we were there and the plane was not there then, looking at the shadow I think it may be a Corsair, anyone know? yes I know I either need to get out more on get on with my work!getmecoat

It was there in 2005 when I went, although I couldn't begin to tell you what sort it is!

Dwight, it's an A-7... have a look here http://www.garlits.com/ and look on the side menu bar for the link to the relevant page.

I seem to remember there used to be a lot more on the website about the plane being put into position than there is there now including pictures of the plane dangling from the crane(s).

"2002 :- took swamp rat out of the museum, entered it in the NHRA US nationals and ran a career best of 318.54 et 4.76"

not bad for a museum piece....

Garlits hustles the nicest Swamp Rat of them all...

I loved that mono-wing and enclosed cockpit setup & I think it's just a shame the design didn't get a little more support and encouragement from the NHRA...

On another note, after it's appearance at the 02 US Nationals, Don appeared with the car at the 03 Gatornationals with his old buddy Dale Armstrong turning the wrenches. They ran an incredible 4.761 second run at an amazing 323.04. In the end, that was only good enough for 20th place and he missed the show. His arch-nemesis Shirley Muldowney was on the bump spot with a 4.694 at 305.39
