Well Krakow to be exact. Off for a mates 21st, anybody been before or recommend places to go?

Currently we are going to the Zweik Brewery and also off to Auschwitz during the day time.

The only observation I can offer is that if you get a lapdance in poland you are expected to juggle with their jabberclackers. Not sure if you will be in that mood after the conc camp but both have been recommended

the centre of Krakow is nice,think 200 year old buildings with Led Zepelin at 10000000db over loud speakers.Auschwitz is worth a visit it you have a strong constitution,for a really spooky experience go to Birkenau......its a lot colder than the outside world and despite the trees there are no birds

Myself and 4 friends spent an entire morning (3hrs) shooting a variety of guns (including a pump-action shotgun, several pistols and a hunting rifle). It cost a grand total of £30 per head, including collection from and return to our hotel in town. Great fun with a hangover!

Also, I would heavily advise visiting a gentlemen's establishment known as Gold Club (google it) - It provides some breathtaking views of Krakow's finest natural resource.

Additionally, don't act like 'Brits Abroad' - Local plod take a rather dim view of foreign louts.

Don't forget to also visit the Wieliczka salt mine. It's quite breathtaking.

BMWdriverNigel, Vixpy and I went at the end of last year and it was bloody great in Krakow. Auschwitz was also worth a visit and very sobering, we drove out and it took basically the whole day to drive out and then get back to Krakow.

The town centre of Krakow was really nice, around the square there were loads of nice places to eat / drink, if you don't have a great time you're doing something very wrong.

I've just got back from a Stag do over there last weekend. On the first night I reluctantly joined the rest of them and wore the supplied t-shirt which went down like a lead balloon. Hostility from the local lads, scuffles in the street, abuse from local females, and removal from a couple of bars. Bad idea, the brits really have tainted this image and it was a horrible experience.

On the second night we learnt our lesson and dressed in our own clobber, smart shirts and shoes and broke up into smaller groups. There was a noticable difference in the way we were treated, handshakes from the doorstaff, smiles from the ladies, and good service from the bar staff. Not a whiff of trouble.

Take my advice, it's a beautiful city, just don't continue to spoil the reputation of 'brits abroad'

I've been to this range too and would highly recommend it. It was a great laugh and an absolute bargain. You can negotiate hard with the cab drivers and they'll do you a good deal. We got the train there and with the holiday theme being winging it, walked for 2 hours in the wrong direction.

I would also recommend the salt mine. I forget how to get there, other than it being on a train, but there are leaflets in the tourist office for it. Some of the rooms down there were spectacular and the air was very cleansing.

Don't forget that some of the best bars are in cellars. To get to them you sometimes have to walk down some rather ropey looking alleys. They're worth hunting out though.

I agree with the last point the most. Please don't tarnish the Polish opinion of us further. There were a few stag parties about when we were over there and the rowdy and obnoxious groups made me embarrassed to be Engligh. Those that broadly behaved themselves were fine. The police and bouncers all seemed to be ex-forces and most looked to be double hard bds so I'd be nice to them.

I second that. I used to work on the doors myself in Leeds, and so did a couple of my mates, so we're not easily intimidated, but some of these lads were seriously tough looking, square jaw, ex-military skinhead Dolph Lundgren style blokes! I'm sure some of them were carrying guns on their belts too.

To be honest, were not going there looking to trash the place and stuff, going for a good time, few nightclubs, bars and such.

If im honest, Auschwitz wasnt my first choice of things to do but i guess it will be quite interesting, got a english tour guide so thats alright!

Just heard we may be Go Karting aswell over there, but somehow i cant see ourselves getting up for that on the last day!

Ive heard that alot of the guys you see out in Krakow are Ex Army and are rather large!

Just come back from a rugby tour there, great fun, The square is fun to drink all day, as is talking absolute flith to local girls who speak english but don't understand things like " I want to know what your undercarriage looks like".

Be aware though they don't like nakedness, police fine you about £200 on the spot and arrest you. There is a great club in the town, it is underground and is awesome, I can't remember the name but will get back to you, but don't go late, bouncers are scary fecks and don't let blokes in by themselves, go early its worth it.

Don't go to mexicana, Mexican food in Poland is below par.

Beer is cheap and restaurant are plentiful, but the best thing is the kebabs, there are loads of places but they are awesome, not the greasy crap you get of here.

Oh ALL of the woman are stunning, everyone, seriously, stunning. Fridged though. Loads of we houses, stunners the lot of them.

Oh oh, I'm going there for my stag do in August but haven't organised that much yet (just tittybar and shooting so far) so I will watch this thread with interest.

Complete and utter bo**ox. I was there in late April and it was certainly not "colder than the outside world" (how could it be?) and there were songbirds aplenty! Where do these stupid myths come from?

Well worth a visit though, both Auschwitz and Birkenau are usually part of the same tour and you really should try to go. Not a barrel of laughs but very interesting and utterly chilling in their planning and efficiency. Strangely though, I was not as affected by it as I anticipated - perhaps it was the combination of it being a lovely Spring day, the crowds of people and the fact that the whole story is so familiar - but it didn't really 'get to me' as I thought it would.

On a lighter note - try to visit the salt mines: absolutely amazing and only a short trip. Don't get an organised trip though, we did and were basicaly ripped off - all the guy did was drive us there and show us where to queue, and charged us plenty for the privilege. Just get local transport there & back. The tourist office in the main square will give you details.

Krakow city centre is very pleasant and plenty of buildings etc to see. The Castle is worth a look too.

One other tip - we found that you'll get a better exchange rate just taking sterling and changing it the numerous buraeu de change there than ordering your zloty from eg Thomas Cook before you go.
