Can you tell i'm bored at work??

Been thinking about running a cable from the ignition to a hidden switch somewhere that needs to be switched on before turning the key?

Someone told me just to cut one of the ignition cables and chuck an on/off switch on.

Is it really that simple? Which would be the best wire to cut? Do I need to use specific cable to extend from the ignition cable etc etc?

Anyone done this already? I'm just abit worried about some chav forcing a screw driver into the ignition and nicking my new toy...

Thanks in advance!!

I wouldn't worry. Old mazda's aren't that desirable any more. I sometimes dont even lock mine.

I guess, although it would be pretty cool to hit a hidden switch before turning the key, plus i'd feel more comfortable about leaving the roof down when parked..

I used to do this with my old bangers...

Cut the wire that feeds the coil... or in this case coil pack.

It'll turn over but won't spark.

With immobilizers being so cheap these days I'd just buy one of them though.

I thought all MX-5/Roadsters had factory immobilisers anyway. Certainly all the later ones did (mid-Mk1 onwards)...

Immobilzer came in on the 96 facelift IIRC.

Have you seen mine? Dents, rattly gearbox, and unclean. If it was nicked I doubt I'd claim!
