I am getting my small bonnet and wing mirror painted and am considering getting the anti stone chip flim put on. I am considering:
PaintShield
or
VentureShield fitted by Steve @ Mint Condition

With VentureShield I have the option of getting it custom cut such that the film goes round the edges to avoid a visible line.

If anyone in North London, Hertforshire or surrounding areas has had this done to their car by one of these companies please let me know as I would like to look at te results. I have spoken to Steve at length - he was most helpful and am awaiting call back tomorrow morning from Paintshield.

If anyone has used these companies please post or PM me your experiences on product and finish.

Thanks.

I know of many Ferrari owners who have used Tom at Paintshield for their cars and I have heard nothing but praise about the quality of finish and fit and service.

Paintshield will be custom cut and fitted so you won't know it's there.

Is Armourfend still going? You used to be able to buy it in pre-cut kits for each model.

I spoke to paintsheild today. For TVRs they only do a pre-cut sheet which folds round only the bottom edge of the small bonnet.

Which car did you have done? I am looking for custom fit on the small Tuscan bonnet. The lady from paintshield did say she would check with her boss and get back to me.

I had it on the T350.

One thing everyone forgets about this stuff is when the time comes to take it off!. I have seen a car in a spray shop that had had this stuff on. It can cause damage to the paint, it will remove the lacquer. I personally think this stuff looks crap, it's difficult to hide the lines unless the whole front bonnet is done. I would rather get the front re-sprayed as and when it needs to be done (about every 6 years) about the same as the "guarantee/life" of the paint protection films and then you might have to have a front end re-spray anyway.

I would seriously think about if this the best way to go for your pride and joy.

Sorry to be negative but there are pros and conns to this fit and "forget" stuff.

Very true - It's a choice of fitting the film or getting a front end respray every few years really and the line on my car is a bit annoying - looks like a scratch across the bonnet (Armourfend was already fitted when i bought mine)

Paintshield on the Griff which I helped design with Tom, Ann and the guys. Paint is very expensive so decided on the protection option but the line is where the bonnet dips which you can't do on a Chimp.
It would have looked a right mess if we hadn't got it and its over £4,500 for a full respray.

In my experience Paintshield does not remove the paint, Armourfend does - after only 6 months, not years.

A TVR will look tatty at the front end in 24 months - but that depends on your standards, some care more than most. Painting the front time after time also brings its own problems, and chipping will occur more frequently the more paint that's on the car.

I have a 3 year old Sagaris and without the paintsheild, it would have needed most of the lower part of the car repainting, as it is, it has one or two light chips above the shield. We also have a similar age Tamora without the paintsheild, and it requires a front end respray this year that will cost twice as much as the paintshield. The Tamora will be wearing a paintshield kit after it's painted. smile

I had a paintshield bumper kit put on a t350 after a respray 9 months ago. I'd had the car under 12 months and it was already very peppered with chips from b-road driving. I've driven all winter with the paintshield fitted. There are a few marks in the film where 'road stuff' has tried to get through - it hasn't - and precisely two small chips above the line of coverage. The line is hardly visible at a glance and polishes up well. IMHO this stuff is great! The idea that my car would only need a respray every six years is laughable, frankly. The paintshield cost ca. £400 and if it lasts three years its a bargain. A TVR driven enthusiastically will look tatty in six months and you cannot just keep respraying fibreglass cars over and over again, not to mention the cost of doing so if you tried.

Thanks for everyone's comments. Th linehaf way up the bonnet is no longer an issue as both products coer the whole small bonnet. My qeustion is do you think a pre-cut product that goes up to the edge is better or a product cut on the car which folds around all four edges is better?

If it were my car, it would be the pre-cut product. I dont see anyone sucessfully folding around the upper edge of the Tuscan Front bonnet - too many curves! Not sure I would feel comfortable with anyone cutting things on the car.

As i understand it, paintshield do not cut on the car like some other companies do. They are all custom precut panels that are fitted without the need to have a knife blade near your car. As said before, speak to Tom at paintshield and i'm sure he will answer all your questions..

Anyone got a rough idea of prices for a mk 1 Tuscan.

I'm about to get some paint work done and would be looking at front bonnet, and something around where the roof bangs the car - drives me nuts!

Would also consider the doors after the amount of dings from people opening their doors onto me!
