Met up with a mate with a cerb.

What a bark.

Just idle wondering, anyone thought of the AJP8 as a conversion candidate?

It's light, compact, and goes like stink is all I know of it. smile

Someone I know was going to do this very conversion and had the engine ready, don't know what happened in the meantime but the car emerged later with a duratec in the back ..

With all due....

what is it with these random "XYZ engine is great sure it will fit an Elise" posts?

does it not occure to you that if this was such a great idea, somebody would have done it?

Have you any idea how BIG an AJP8 V8 is?

to fit this kind of engine, you would have to re-design the entire back end of the car, rear suspention, bodywork, new transaxle, etc etc etc, at which point it's arguably NOT an elise any more (look at the V6 Audi one for an example).

LOL ...what should be posted on all Elise forums is "This car has been in existence for 12 years, everything that can be done to it, has been done, search before asking a question that will have been asked before"wink LOL

Sorry to bring up an old post but someone in a different thread actually weighed an AJP8, and it was 103kg.

Add a PS pump, flywheel and fluids, it'll be around 120kg.

Has no one really tried one in an Elise/Exige?

FFS man,

NO WAY is a complete AJP8 engine 103Kg's, whoever weighed it was on druggs, or the engine was hollow.

ignoring that, have you any idea how BIG they are?

As I said before, get real.

Edit... for example, a cosworth DFV is some 150Kg's and that was designed as the ultimate lightwight F1 engine (and only 3/3.5L )

you could never get a cerb AJP8 engine to fit into an elise, not chance...

if you ever could, I'd want one!! Especially the rare 5 litre AJP8 engine TVR made a few off, crazy power!!

Do you think you could get a BRM V16 in? Or perhaps a Rolls Royce Merlin?

LOL...ive heard that the M1 Abrams gas turbine is much more compact, with some different engine mounts it might go in !

Of course you could just go the whole hog and fit a nuclear core...I've heard that Sizewell A's Magnox reactors might be up for grabs in the not too distant future (one VERY careful owner).

How hard can it be? wink

Big engines are invariably heavy engines. I wonder if the small VW engines with superchargers and turbos would be a better bet.
